Oregonians' health premiums poised for big hikes next year

More than 220,000 Oregonians who buy their own health insurance are poised to pay higher premiums next year -- some of them a lot higher.

State regulators on Thursday announced rates for people who aren't covered by their employers or government programs. And the news is not good.

While some insurers proposed rates similar to or better than this year's, officials are ordering them to be raised -- saying they need to close a sizable gap between what insurers have collected and what they spend on claims.

As a result, the least expensive "silver" plan premium available to a 40-year-old next year will run $271 per month under the new rates. That's up $49 per month over this year's low rate. Bronze plans offer the least coverage under new federal ratings, and platinum the most.

Just left Oregon for my home state of Washington.

My VA health insurance is just fine, thank you.

And let's not make this a VA health insurance thread.

Longer waits. Less care.
Antibiotics at $1800 per week.
Few docs.

Great plan.
No wonder the GOP supports it.

My sentiment exactly. Maybe these bleeding heart liberals in this rabid liberal state might see what their votes have given them. Hey pinhead RATS, you reap what you sow.

The GOP Congress doesn’t support Obamacare; they’ve voted to repeal it multiple times and have a way of eliminating it, but it won’t happen until we have a conservative President.

I had a great health care policy until it jumped 240 bucks a month. Now I have one that will cost me 2000 bucks my first five days in the hospital and FORTY dollar co pay visits. They only charge Fifty!!

I forgot to add they are raising rates after I believe wasting $300 million trying to set up their exchange and failed.

Has anyone ever thought why someone like Paul Erlich, author of the “The Population Bomb” is one of 0Bamma’s heroes? “The Population Bomb”asserts that the world’s human population would soon increase to the point where mass starvation ensued. Erlich wrote this nearly 30 years ago, and it has not come to fruition.... then, 0Bamma stepped upon the stage. All of this fits well with 0Bammacare, as well as many of his other suicidal ideas, because the ever increasing cost and inneffectiveness of this entire debacle called 0Bamma may result in reducing the country’s population by the very destruction of the country. This is 0Bamma’s plan to “fundamentally change America.”

The Socialist Democratic Party has been wanting to bring forth multitudes of new Eugenics programs and now they can, with obamacare coupled with baby killings(3rd trimester).

You recieved that as part of your service to this nation. I support that totally. But for some free loader — I don’t wish to pay their premiums or build them a house or pay to abort their babies. I pay my premiums and own my house— why should they get free stuff— out right communism. Your deal was part a contract of service. enjoy.

$271 per month for a 40 year old may be a significant increase over last year but it’s hard to say it’s unaffordable.

What BS. Congress controls funding
and impeachment, AND promised to
eliminate RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE
BUT ... the GOP started it, and
are liars, and are EXEMPT.
