I think it's actually better that he's demonstrated to be bat**** crazy (the only possible defense) before he's sentenced to death. Unfortunately, I think they will take forever to execute him. South Carolina had 85 or so inmates on death row when I checked.

The death penalty would be no penalty.It would be so simple to merely let the murderers keep their belts and shoelaces, and assure that there are sufficient tie-off places in the cells. Let them off themselves if they so choose.
