Charleston massacre: Republicans at odds over Confederate flag
The London Telegraph ^ | June 21, 2015

Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush say South Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from the statehouse but Ted Cruz disagrees.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has called for the immediate removal of the Confederate battle flag from outside the South Carolina Statehouse, forcing the 2016 Republican presidential contenders to declare their positions on the issue.

Some still steered clear from the sensitive debate, even after the shooting deaths of nine people in a historic African-American church in Charleston further exposed the raw emotions about the flying the flag of the secessionist, pro-slavery Southern states in the 1861-65 American Civil War.

Many see the Confederate flag as "a symbol of racial hatred," the 2012 Republican presidential nominee tweeted on Saturday. "Remove it now to honor #Charleston victims."(continued)

So Romney is working to bring about the third Republican defeat that he had a direct hand in?

All this sympathy for this liberal church in Charleston, SC, is great, but is stirring up the racism pot. Several times today I have heard, what about all the whites beat up by black gangs, ie the knock out game.

I think obama and holders dream of race riots and wars is very close to coming to.

I like the suggestion that we ban the Mexican Flag first.

That darned flag is responsible for 9 lives. Yep, that makes a lot of nonsense. These people strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. How stupid to blame a flag that has been waving for many years on the deaths of those precious people. Call it what it is - EVIL! Pure and simple. Everyone is looking for someone to blame. Well, I blame Satan - he comes to kill, steal and destroy. It’s a spiritual battle and has nothing to do with inanimate objects. These people are so clueless.

Can I ask a stupid question? How do unrelated subjects get tossed into social/political debates??? And why???

What exactly does the Confederate flag have to do with mass murder???

In the Trayvon case, why were there discussions of stand your ground laws, when stand your ground laws were not part of that case? As we had to repeatedly tell liberals, Zimmerman invoked self defense as his defense at trial, not the stand your ground law in Florida. Yet Florida’s stand your ground law became part of the narrative of that case.

And in the case of the Charleston shooting, there’s a narrative that now we Need to take down the flag. But that flag has no relation to a nutcase gunning down people. What the heck???

And, how do you know this is a liberal church? I heard the families of the victims quoting Bible after losing their loved ones. Not only quoting it, but, practicing it. The entire service today was about love - the racial riots these race baiters are looking for isn’t going to materialize in Charleston. These people are practicing the Word of God in this situation and keeping their eyes on Jesus through this tragedy. I saw white, black, young, old, male, female and even cops at that service today. Maybe this will help bring some healing to the racial tensions that our dear leader wants stirred. I hope so.

The Confederate flag is part of history...

Willard does not understand..he’s never cared to be part of American history..

A country’s history is bound up in wars, inspiration, endeavors for expansion..

Willard and his family have lived on the backs and the sweat and bravery of others more honorable than they..

the Romneys have never been on the frontlines of American history..

A lot of heat was put on South Carolina a few years back to put the CSA battle flag in moth balls. There were a lot of threats that the state would be punished by loss of a great deal of tourism bookings if they refused.

SC refused, and I can attest to the fact that their tourism industry appears to be very healthy.

This whole episode is exactly how the left pounces when an incident happens to outlaw guns, outlaw symbols that the left doesn’t like, or to shut down speech in some way. Demands are made and calls for apologies are repeated. It’s refreshing when someone stands up to the leftist autocrats.

what has a Democrat flag got to do with Republicans?

Democrat governors put those flags up not Republicans.

Walker’s statement today on the shooting in Charleston was more proof that he isn’t going to play the game the way the left wants him too. Sorry no link if you didn’t get a chance to catch it.

A crazed young man murders a group of people at a Bible study class and all the media and punditry and politicians can come up with is...the Confederate flag. Yes, flags kill people just like guns do, I guess. The Europeans on Facebook are livid over the Confederate flag - although, generally, they’re not always sure what states actually comprised the Confederacy - some think Arizona and Oklahoma are in the Deep South along with Louisiana.

Very nice, Nana! Mitty is showing his immaturity, and the Bush-woman is showing his condescension. I remember with BushW-woman didn’t think Texas was part of the south, but where was Stephen F. Austin from, Sam Houston, Davy Crockett from?

“Republicans at odds over Confederate flag”. Just one of many things they are odd about. Is there any spine left anywhere that can talk over these assclowns. Sheesh!

it's going to be a long hot summer

IMO .... the take-a-way story is ...

Jesus puts in the hearts of the born again, HIS heart of forgiveness and new life

This is the greatest evangelistic tool that every Christion should be pumping into every opportunity to pump !
