A New Orleans high school student who was just 15 when he was charged in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to the crime Tuesday (June 23), and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Just as jury selection was to begin in his second-degree murder trial, Justin Walker, 18, accepted prosecutors' offer to plead guilty to manslaughter in the Jan. 8, 2013, death of Aaron "Rasta" Ganier in the 7th Ward.

Soon, they’ll be telling us we can’t use “teen” because it’s racist.

Wow, just beneath this story is this one.

New Orleans seems like a violent place, where life has little value.

Some years ago I read in a Reader’s Digest a horrible story about a woman that saw what she believed to be drug activity in her neighborhood and called the NOPD to report it. Within a couple of days she was murdered, by a crooked NOPD cop who was guarding the drug dealers while on duty. I wouldn’t even drive through that city for love nor money.

Saw that. White father and son were just shotgunned in their home a few weeks ago by an aspiring rapper in nola.

Appears to be open season on Crackers./sarc

Wonder if soetoro will mention it?

Nola cops killed a bunch of innocent people during katrina.

Like other places nola cops carry drop knives and guns to put down in case they murder unarmed people, and down there the drop weapons are referred to as “ham sandwiches”.

Sounds racist to me. I’ll bet the trial was fraught with microaggressions, triggers and no safe space. Think we should probably ban the NFLs penalty flag..

Actually, New Orleans has a higher murder rate than Baltimore. For 2015 New Orleans is ranked number 9 and Baltimore is ranked number 13.
