As Republican infighting grows, donors call for calm

WASHINGTON (AP) — Worried about "Republican on Republican violence," top party donors are taking action, with one firing off a letter calling for more civility and another seeking to block businessman Donald Trump from the debate stage altogether.

Foster Friess, a Wyoming-based investor and one of the party's top 20 donors in the last presidential contest, issued a letter to 16 White House prospects and the Republican National Committee late last week calling for candidates to stay on the "civility reservation."

"Our candidates will benefit if they all submit to Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment, 'Thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican,'" Friess wrote in a copy of the letter sent to Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus and obtained by The Associated Press.

Sure he would make more money, I just think its a mistake to think his motives are entirely altruistic.

I’d believe that of Cruz long before Trump who has never made a decision in his life that wasn’t based on profit. Maybe he’s been saving up his motives, maybe not.

Regardless his politics aren’t conservative. So while he’s fun to watch I would not want him in the White House.

Just what we need the donors dictating to the RNC.

In fairness, why not? I won't donate to the surrender monkeys at the RNC until they meet my demands so why should Foster Friess be any different? It's his money and he can set his terms and the Judas' who run the GOP can sell out what's left of their principles or they can stand to them.

It's their call and I'm pretty sure the Legion of Judas will see us out for their proverbial thirty pieces of silver.

Millions have seen your bought and paid for "adults" debating for decades, as the U.S. slides into the abyss in every aspect. As the audience of fools offer up endless applause. No thanks.☺

LoL they are panicking.

Go ahead CoC block Trump - that would worsen it from your prospective. Trump would stage a news conference outside the debate forum. These clowns have much to learn about selling.

"Screw them and the illegal alien hoard they have unleashed on us."

I have nothing against the rich.

But I'll be damned if I'll stand by and do nothing while they turn the country upside down, destroying the culture and the economy.

I'm drawing a line there.

And I blame THESE bastards and the scum they financed for office.

And, they need to know: Hell's a comin'.

I tend to agree and really hope they attempt to block Trump from the debates and or nomination. This is really what they want.

If they succeed in silencing Trump, ejecting him from the pre-paid insiders elite club, America can go back to cursing the leadership they elect.

So what! “Infighting” is what is otherwise known as politics. It is bad only UNTIL you consider the alternatives.

The real threat to the GOP like the rest of western civilization is this overly emotional feelings-can’t-be’hurt mentality that is smashing long held values such as freedom of speech, print, religion etc..

I can see those eGOPe removing immigration from the debate altogether, or spouting their nonsense about it while Trump stages his press conference right after the debate. He would absolutely smash them for it and call them sissies for excluding him and not telling the truth.

“Worried about “Republican on Republican violence,” top party donors are taking action...”

This just means that they are fretting that the candidates they favor are vulnerable to criticism, so they want to forbid it.

Sorry, greedy rich establishment guys. If your candidates can’t “take a licking and keep on ticking”, they can’t hold their own against Democrats, either.

Don't cherry-pick Reagan's philosophy. Try adhering to all his other principles too!!!

How is this different than the Clinton playbook?

"the civility reservation"

How apt - civility is only required of Republicans. This donor did not realize how correct he actually is.

Think about what you just posted.

In essence, you’re saying that criticism of that liberal Democrat, Trump, amounts to being in bed with leftists.

That’s right...you’re saying we have to support a liberal, or we are a liberal.

It isn’t the first time I’ve seen the sentiment around the forum, either. It’s been going that way for several days now. Trump fans are trying to shut up those who recognize him for what he is.

You don’t see this kind of thing from Cruz supporters, or even Walker supporters. It’s only the Trump fans...which lends credence to the theory that it’s become a cult of sorts.
