GOP Rep. Slated To Introduce Legislation Targeting Sanctuary Cities
Breitbart ^ | 7 Jul 2015 | Caroline May

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) will again introduce legislation targeting sanctuary cities, Breitbart News has learned.

Hunter’s bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to restrict funding to any state or locality that has in place a law, policy or procedure in contravention of federal immigration law, preventing “state or local law enforcement officials from gathering information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”

The legislation would make those cities with sanctuary policies or laws in place ineligible for State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) funding. SCAAP reimburses states and localities for the cost of holding illegal immigrants convicted of crimes.

“States and cities that refuse to enforce federal immigration laws directly undermine enforcement efforts and — as recent events have shown — present a real danger to citizens,” Hunter said in a statement to Breitbart News.

“If a state or one of its cities wants to call itself a sanctuary and deliberately ignore the law, then Congress shouldn’t hesitate to withhold federal funding until there’s compliance,” he continued. “One program that most certainly should cease reimbursement is SCAAP, which is intended to mitigate the costs of incarceration, and extend to salaries and overtime. And we should look to other programs too, but there should be wide support for a response, such as this proposal, that exercises a constitutional prerogative of Congress in order to uphold the law.

The bill is still being drafted and could target additional funding once finalized. Hunter expected to officially introduce it Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hunter’s legislation comes on the heels of the shooting death of Kathryn Steinle by a five-time deported, seven-time convicted felon at a San Francisco pier.

You got that right. They’ve been getting away with this four years but you’re not supposed to be able to pick and choose your own laws to follow.

Watch lefties suddenly invoke state’s rights and scream that the GOP is using the federal gov’t to get their way.

...... The family should also sue the city for the gross negligence that led up to the murder/death of the victim. The fact still remains that if this was not a so called “Sanctuary City” ...... The victim would still be alive today. The actions of the city resulted in her death.

Oh please, bring it.

Wife works downtown at a "sanctuary city" hospital, frequently leaving after dark.

Got her carrying (but the stupid hospital is "gun free" of course so she has to leave the weapon locked in the car where it isn't of much use between the building and the car - where she's most vulnerable... damn I hate the "gun free zone" mentality!).

Have her semi-trained, but a civilian can only pay so much attention every day.

Tried the escort route (dropping off and picking up) but our schedules got so out of synch that is no longer possible.

Yep! We down here in Texas have put up with this invasion for decades. There are large areas of Houston you wouldn't even recognize as America.

Auto insurance rates are too high in part because of illegal aliens driving w/o insurance. Property taxes through the roof in part because the hospital districts treat illegals in emergency rooms for non life threatening injuries/ailments then skip out on the tab, leaving it for county taxpayers through the hospital districts.

Bilingual education of illegal kids, all government forms printed in English AND Spanish, drugs, ruthless Messy-can gangs terrorizing American citizens through assaults, rapes, murders, robberies, burglaries...you name it.

Press one for English...really pisses me off.

I've personally witnessed auto accidents where illegals get out of the car and run so the cops can't charge them with driving while intoxicated.

Every single night, night after night on the evening news, carjackings, home invasions, stabbings, drive by shootings, bump and robs, high speed chases that ends up with illegals blowing through stop lights and injuring/killing innocent Americans going about there daily life.

Over 30% of the American prison population are illegal aliens. At $40K a pop per year to keep these thugs in prison..tawkin bout real money.

It is insane what our government has done to America, and when someone like Trump speaks the truth...oh my gosh, the horror! How dare he say such a thing.

Well folks on the street know it's the truth. We've all know this for decades. Pssst, by the way, hundreds of thousands of illegals are working in the kitchens of restaurants all across this nation, handling your food/dishes without so much as a health exam. Can anyone spell hepatitis? Tuberculosis?

It's time for this madness to STOP.

Yes, just another thing that the GOP fails to actually try to correct! Can’t we have a party for the people instead of these two?

I voted for his father for president.

I did also in the Oregon primary, not that it mattered at the time. He was head and shoulders above all the other Republican candidates that year.

18 months ago Duncan Hunter Jr was duped by Coffman and Denham to support the Dreamer Mercenary bill.

Now he is carrying his father’s work in congress.

Offtopic but Dana Rohrabacher(R-CA) is similar to Trump with outlandish comments but he is one of the best congressmen.

“...you’re not supposed to be able to pick and choose your own laws to follow.” Tell that to CA that flouts the immigration laws, and CO and OR that ignores the drug laws. So TX should ignore the illegal same sex marriage ruling by the SCOTUS until they can find the article in the Constitution that gave them the authority to set the laws on marriage.

This bill is not going anywhere. Let the left have their sanctuary cities. What we need from our pols is not more feel good symbolic bills. We need our freedom back.

Let the left have their sanctuary cities.

In fact, let's help them by rounding up and mailing them our "homeless".
