Seattle would tax gun and ammunition sales and require owners to tell police about lost and stolen firearms under a pair of bills coming before the City Council.
City Council President Tim Burgess is proposing the legislation, saying revenue from the new tax would fund gun-violence-prevention programs and research.
Gun violence is very expensive, Burgess said, noting that the direct medical costs of treating 253 gunshot victims at Seattles Harborview Medical Center last year surpassed $17 million, with taxpayers covering more than $12 million of that. Its time for the gun industry to help defray those costs and this is a very reasonable way to do it.
The tax, imposed on gun sellers, would be $25 on each firearm sold in the city and five cents on each round of ammunition.

Learn to reload.....it is a great skill to have in dealing with aholes like this. (though this reg still needs to be fought tooth and nail if passed)
Sounds like good news for the gun shops just outside the city limits, huh?
Good. That’s more ammo for me in Virginia.
Sounds like they may need MORE shops just outside of city limits.
If only we could tax stupid, Seattle would be rich!
= No one will buy ammo in Seattle.
“City Council President Tim Burgess is proposing the legislation, saying revenue from the new tax would fund gun-violence-prevention programs and research.”
Translation: the revenue will be given to various left wing groups and friends of Tim who will kick back a portion of it to the democrats.
He’s not schooled in economics is he?
Just drive on over to Idaho and get your guns and ammo! No tax no worry’s mate!
Taxing the Second Amendment at 5 cents per round? Sure.
We’ll also want to tax the First Amendment in Seattle. Perhaps the Seattle Times should be taxed at 5 cents per word payable for EACH copy of the paper that is sold.
The best gun-violence-prevention program is a well-armed citizenry.
Repeat after me: Dillon.
He’ll probably LOSE city revenue because there are three or four gun shops within 5-10 minutes of the Seattle city limits. People will just go there.
ok...now start taxing every newspaper and church, and all the church notices handed out after the services.
Is that a Hornady? I have a Dillon Square Deal for straight wall pistol cases, RCBS for bottleneck, and MEC for shotgun.
All that does is produce an underground economy that they don’t have any idea what’s what.
Hornady Lock N’ Load. I have one and love it.
Completely ignored is who is perpetrating the gun violence.
