On immigration, Donald Trump takes a page from Pete Wilson's 1994 playbook

More than two decades have passed since Republican Gov. Pete Wilson aired a television ad showing Mexicans scurrying across the border as an announcer declared, "They keep coming: 2 million illegal immigrants in California."
Wilson's short-term gain he won both reelection and passage of a ballot measure to deny public services to immigrants in the country illegally was soon outweighed by a devastating Latino backlash that turned California into a Democratic stronghold.
So there was a flashback quality to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's hour-long denunciation of illegal immigration at a campaign stop Friday in Beverly Hills.

The LA Times doesn't approve of Trump's anti-ILLEGAL alien position? That's a shocker.

There's the first bold lie and it's only the second sentence.
It's been the white people in CA that put the commies in power and told them to open the gates.

devastating Latino backlash And therein lies the handicap of a democracy. Common sense laws are passed and the "people" protest.

The LA Slime, the LA Slime, really? This worthless piece of crap cannot disappear soon enough. I would say more but for fear of banishment from FR, I will not. Suffice to say this despicable excuse of a “newspaper” is only worth one thing, to provide paper to light my BBQ. I would not buy or read this piece of sh#t if you paid me. Management has destroyed every aspect of this piece of crap. Food section—gone; sports— a bare sinimum; business—gone. Why exist you worthless piece of crap?

Sadly, Tribune Publishing the parent company of the LA Times recently purchased the San Diego Union Tribune. So most of Southern California’s major newspapers are now owned by the same liberal mouthpiece.

revisionist history.
Pete Wilson was a horrible governor and the republican party in CA makes the keystone cops look like highly competent professionals.
CA turned left because of the influx of people during the internet bubble (mostly lefties), massive illegal immigration, motor voter ID laws, and perpetual republican target practice on their own feet.
sadly, i see the republican party in CO is just as bad.
if people want to know why we have lost this country, look no further than your own state republican party officials. the people in control for the past 20 years have been weak, wishy-washy, “afraid of their own shadow” types, always tacking to the center for fear of expressing any controversial opinions. any state that has gone from red to blue or red to purple in the past 2 decades is guaranteed to have a horrible state republican party apparatus.

Pete Wilson had many problems but his biggest was he was a liberal. I met him when he was Mayor of San Diego and never cared much for him. He is one of those votes I can say I regret.

The ballot measure was overturned by a judge, not by illegals.
After Wilson came (D)Grey Davis who was recalled and replaced by Schwarzenegger a pretend Republican.
Prior to Davis, Cal. had a Republican Governor for 16 consecutive yrs.
California was infiltrated by East Coast liberals who came here for free education, high wages and the weather. Pelosi is but one example of a East Coast liberal.
If you look at red/blue map, you'll see most of the state is red...BUT the liberals occupy the population centers along the coast and the south.

Nobody ever built the walls between borders and California made it illegal to check ID when voting, so lots of dirty stuff along with growing union slush funds and government/welfare state turned California DEMOCRAT.

You're an idiot.
You try to paint everyone who appreciates Trump telling the truth as a sycophant.
Truth be known, you're just wannabe disruptive troll.
