Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took a veiled shot at Donald Trump on Friday, saying that the "circus" surrounding Republican infighting on illegal immigration is hurting the party.
The circus currently surrounding the debate over illegal immigration sows division within our country and damages the Republican Party," McCain, the party's presidential nominee in 2008, said in a statement.
He added that "if the Republican nominee for president does not support comprehensive immigration reform and border security policy, we have no chance of defeating Hillary Clinton and winning the White House in 2016."
Top Republicans including Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus have rushed to do damage control, with Preibus reportedly asking Trump in a phone call to tone down his talk.

McLame is what is wrong with the Republican brand...
Trump took a large verbal shot at Juan during yesterday’s speech.
No Senator, the Circus will be your next Election bid. Hopefully the citizens of AZ won’t listen to the same ole carnival barker this time around...
I call it defining the debate about the elephant in the room.
The elephant is lame and incapable of charging even the weakest threat.
I guess he doesn't want to make his friend mad at him...
After all, that would be embarrassing at their little get together to keep the uni-party in power
He added that “if the Republican nominee for president does not support comprehensive immigration reform and border security policy, we have no chance of defeating Hillary Clinton and winning the White House in 2016.”

Allowing Hillary and the democrats to set the terms for winning the presidency means they have won already. That is how and why McCain lost. He is so stupid he doesn’t know or doesn’t care.
Where’s the damned wall, John?
“McCain: ‘Circus’ around immigration debate hurting GOP”
If you know so much about winning, how come you lost to the guy who would become the worst president in the history of the united states?
Does Benghazi-McCAin (creator of IRS attacks on conservatives
and ISIS) have something to say?
Arizonans should hang their heads in shame for
putting Slaver McCAin in charge leading to thousands
of women raped and sold.
What the crap is he talking about? What an idiot. Thousands upon thousands respond to the message and he calls our response a circus?
Trump has assisted so many of these uniparty members of the Washington cartel right up to the ramp to help them jump the shark.
Thanks Donald.
Kick The vile, hate filled, decadent, loathsome, anti-American into the dung heap of history where they belong!
And McCain's pathetic response supports what Trump said about him.
You know I’ve not yet considered the effect this Trump thing will have on future elections. I’ve been focusing on this coming election almost exclusively. But yeah this will not go away.
Like.
SHUT UP JUAN!!!!!!!
Isn’t there anyway Trump can lock McCain up in a tiger cage again?
McCain has more damage to the USA over the years than Obama has.
If it weren’t for Democrats voting in the Republican primary in AZ, Juan would have had to live off his wife’s money long ago. The least he could do is keep his mouth shut about the “Republican brand.”
I would not bet anything on it. If the past is any indication of the future, he will be re-elected by a landslide. He should be referred to as, "The Beloved Senator From Arizona". And if he was not a Republican, the media would preface each comment they made about him with those words.
The government is not serious about illegal immigration, and it is not serious about its own legitimacy. It selectively enforces law, operates in bad faith, and on balance is a force of harm to the country.
