“At worst it was nervous cops overreacting”
Oh yeah well that explains everything. Nervous cops get to kill you, leave your family $4.7 million richer and are probably still out there every day “protecting us!” For me, cops are like a well-known minority, a small percentage whom adhere to the law and do their dead level best to bring honor to their group. Then there’s the rest that aren’t worth the powder it would take to blow them all to hell! Sure, being a LEO is a tough job, but most aren’t up to it. And notice how the DA is out there pi$$ing on everyone’s leg trying to say it was “justified.” So if it was “justified,” why did the city pony up the big bucks? My guess is that if it had gone to trial it would have been a lot more. Gardena is a dump, so maybe that explains it.
A case of stupidity. Stupid suspect had no gun but couldn’t keep his hand up, kept dropping them. These guys were lit up good, video shows that. Someone was a bit heavy on the trigger I’d guess given the fact according to the story, there were 3 or 4 guns already drawn on the suspects.
Then again it was a robbery call. Mean streets at 2 a.m. bad things happen. This was one of them.
ROFL!!
It wasn't stupidity - the kid thought that just because the officers were mistaken, and he and his friends were in the right, and not breaking any laws, but were actually looking for the law-breakers, that they wouldn't be shot out of hand.
Well, at least his family got a great inheritance out of it...
Well. At least they didn’t shoot him in the back while he was running away.
I understand and read all that. I don’t know what the suspect was thinking and you’re probably right. But regardless what he was thinking, it was a stupid move. One can communicate fine with their hands up.
I’m not saying this is a totally justified shoot. People are human and make mistakes. Many of these are chain shoots..One shoots and the rest open up. Bad things happen. Cops want to live too.
The cops here I assume had no idea who these suspects were. Robbery call, 230 a.m. in gangland area. Cops amp’d up, and a suspect acting like he’s possibly going for a weapon?
That’s a really bad mix.
Your anti-cop bias blinds you to all truth and logic. The guy went for his pocket or waistband 4 separate times while being ordered at gunpoint to keep his hands up.
If he had a gun, one or more cops may have been killed the way they hesitated the first 3 times.
It would be obvious to anyone with a brain that the cops suspected him to be a threat. If the moron had kept his hands in the air for a minute or so while the situation got sorted out nobody would have been injured.
Cops are not mind readers. A person who goes for he pockets and waist 4 times while being ordered at gunpoint go keep his hands in the air seems like a threat to any reasonable, rational human being.
Actually, I've spent enough time at the firing range to know that some dipstick who hasn't even filled either hand yet ain't going to remotely threaten me with MY hand filled and aimed.
You & those polices obviously need moar range time. And to chill on All Fear, All The Time.
If the job makes them stain their underwear, they need to get another job.
