This article is exactly right. Another example to make this point is woman’s professional basketball. These are some of the best conditioned adult female athletes on the planet. But, after watching the Indiana Heat play and win the WNBA championship a couple of years ago there is no doubt in my mind that the Indiana men’s state high school basketball champs would destroy them in a game. It wouldn’t be close.

I have to say, when I got my EFMB I sloughed off training for the litter obstacle course. It is unbelievable how difficult that is. I was really unhappily surprised how quickly I went from “this is gonna be a piece of cake” to “OMG, how could I not have realized...”

The other stressor that I anticipated but nevertheless intellectual understanding and “being there” can be quite distinct entities. 15 minutes or 30 minutes or whatever it was at MOPP 4 in the tropics almost killed me and I was at peak fitness. It probably would kill me in 5 minutes today.

There is also the basic and simple fact that it does a country irreparable harm to put all of its good warrior DNA on the battlefield. Might not seem fair, but it is what it is. Furthermore, insisting that the daughters of a proud military tradition are other gendered (despite their own opinions on the matter, and it does look like that’s where we are heading) is likewise stupid.

That being said, I understand that we make better shots on average.

If they were really serious about finding out about women in combat, wouldn’t they just deploy all women combat units and just see how they perform?

Toss in that we are reducing troop numbers along with the percentage that are now women, and we have a recipe for disaster.

It’s a bad idea only if we don’t get to nominate those women who will be in combat. For starters, any elected chick with a “D” after her name, and continue from there.

I remember in our high school government class (many many years back) the topic of women in the military got brought up. Every female in the class staunchly advocated that they could do the same job that men could and should be accepted in the military. I then asked, “if you are okay with it then that’s fine with me. So you are also okay if a military draft comes up again and you get chosen?” Every female in the class immediately stopped talking.

Let’s start by correcting the focus from the equivocation in the title.

It’s not whether women belong in combat.

It is whether anyone for any reason belongs in a combat MOS if they can’t be deployed in combat.

And the answer is a resounding no.

A motor transport troop who can’t be sent into combat (whether female or some other reason) does not “free a troop to fight.” Instead they fill up billets in choice duty stations rendering those assignments unavailable to give combat troops a break between combat deployments.

So before we even get into crap about lowering physical standards for recruitment, training, or retention let us be honest about the true extent of the problem.

Have you ever heard the Democrats scream about females having equality with males in being drafted for the military?

Not a peep.

Why?

Women see a news story about an inner city Mother and they are all for food stamps.

They think, “That could be me.”

Women see a news story about a Soldier in Afghanistan being blown up and they think, “I wonder if the Kardashians are on?”

They don’t care about military matters because they don’t have to.
