True, and thanks! I should have another look at pistola tech. I like revolvers. Semi-auto pistols are okay here, though.

Sorry that I was a little vague on that and was referring to the recent laws up here against magazines over 15 rounds for rifles. I was trying to keep tech. talk about firearms low key here and thought you were talking about rifles. ;-)

Magazines owned before the new laws took effect are okay. Regarding newer magazines, 15-round magazines are legal for ARs since then. Not bad, really. I preferred 20-round mags over 30-round mags for M-16s on Army ranges and in fire-and-maneuver training anyway (better for using ground for cover, more dependable).

But when magazine capacity was limited in this state, I reconsidered the terrain here: wide open spaces. And I like reloading. That’s why I mentioned “high density and high coefficient” (high sectional density and high ballistic coefficient in bullets for more range). Firing a .223 is like firing spitwads up here, especially when the whirlwinds are drifting through (most of the time). Was always frustrated when firing those little, bitty, 55 gr., FMJ service bullets in downpours, even on lowland ranges.

Okay for varmints, though. 75 gr. or heavier for possible defense is not too bad, but still,...

Maybe something in 6.5 Grendel looks pretty good for semi-auto, or maybe a bolt action in something with stability much further out. Some of the savage rifles are nice to screw a custom barrel on to (say, maybe in .338 Lapua, or 7mm-08 if more cheapness looks better). I can see the ground several miles in every direction.

I always was more of a ballistics nerd than a hunter. ;-)

As far as military emblems and garb go, I don’t wear them. Subdued civilian clothing is good enough. Even turned down the veteran driver’s license last time in favor of the regular one. Grooming is intentionally neglected to blend in with the local rag-baggery now for part of the year, though being clean cut was easier and felt much better. ;-)
