The rational folks out there, myself included, probably won’t. Problem is such people are a shrinking minority. The rest have been told for years that they are entitled to everything, so I think it’s only natural for them to get quite cross when what they want suddenly isn’t available.
Not all Americans would riot. But I believe many who are on “entitlements” would riot and loot. Many Americans would go into self-defense mode.

Not so sure I agree with all of your statement. A lot of rural areas in flyover country have a substantial number of welfare recipients, due to the dearth of decent paying jobs in these areas. Too many poor white double-wide occupants are competing for too few convenience store jobs. These rednecks pay a certain amount of lip service to conservative values, until their benefits are threatened, then they go all liberal asshat in a heartbeat.
You’re right about one thing, though. They are armed to the teeth.

That’s a dirty little secret. Rural areas have been on the dole for years, and it’s getting worse. I think most of the country is giving up any pretense of conservatism unless, conservatism now means “I’m gonna get mine before it all runs out.”
The other lie is that rural areas will be safer. If you’re within driving distance, you aren’t much safer. Normalcy bias is alive and well in the country, as well. Isolation us a two-edged sword,and most families these days are hardly army size...
I don't think even then will they have a clue. They will think they can appease the mob. Even when it is too late.
