Native Americans had slaves a 1000 years before whites arrived.. maybe 10,000 or more..
Yup, the so-called Native Americans not only waged brutal war against various tribes before and after the white man, but they also took slaves in their individual conquests. The NOBlE Indians weren't so noble. They were savages that fought amongst each other.
Dances With Wolves was a cool movie that depicted the plains Sioux as peaseful people, as opposed to the Pawnee. The entire movie was a farce. The Sioux had many battles with other tribes as did the Cheyenne and Apaches in the west and were totally barbaric in their inter-tribal wars. They not only did the scalping thing, but enslaved their captives for years.
That said, the Indians got a raw deal from the Fedgov when they tried for a peace pact and then sent to reservations.
Oh well, it was a time in history of colonialization.
