Donald Trump, the provocative reality television star who for much of the last month has upended the 2016 Republican primary, is still doing well in polls in a pair of early nominating states despite recent rhetoric that many party leaders have denounced.

In New Hampshire, which holds the first presidential primary, Trump leads the field with 21% support from potential GOP primary voters, according to a new NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday. His closest competitor, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is at 14%, with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker receiving 12% support and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 7%.

Meanwhile, in Iowa, where the state's caucuses begin the nominating process, Trump is tied with Walker. Both get 19% support from potential GOP caucus-goers. Bush is at 12%, followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson with 8% and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 7%.

In Iowa on Saturday, Trump jabbed Walker for Wisconsin's recent budget troubles. His criticism came after news broke that a top fundraiser for the governor had referred to Trump as “Dumb Dumb” in an email to supporters.

The Donald may have to be carrying his own china shop around with him, just so he can display his skills as an iconoclast.

He certainly is “clasting” a whole lot of icons.

It’s not a good idea to poke at a pit bull.

My guess is the field will attack Cruz at the first debate and leave Donald alone. They have to attack conservatism. Cruz will reciprocate, Trump will just say that is politics and it is time to let a business man get down to business.

Do you really think anyone cares about Trump's skeletons, if there are any? At this point, it would have even more people identifying with him. I doubt that he's like the DC crowd that can be blackmailed or bought.

Don't they get it? NOBODY respects the DC crowd anymore, except their enablers.

Donald Trump looks almost as inevitable as Hillary looked at a similar point in the 2008 presidential race.

Hillary’s problem turned out to be that she couldn’t fight back against her chief rival, Barack Obama, without appearing to be racist and losing the black vote.

Are there Republican candidates whom Donald Trump won’t be able to fight back against without losing a large segment of the Republican base? Maybe the two most pro-religious candidates, Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee, could be a problem, as would Carly Fiorina because she’s a woman and aggressive hits from Donald Trump — the only kind he knows how to make — could alienate prospective voters.

Today we’re enjoying watching Donald Trump go after pompous fools like John McCain and Lindsey Graham, and we’ll cheer if he finds a good pretext to annihilate Jeb Bush with his ill-gotten corporate millions; but we won’t be happy if he starts beating up on our favorites, particularly Ted Cruz, which he can be expected to do if Ted Cruz threatens to win the nomination.

My feeling is the Chicago Mob blackmailed the Clintons over Arkancides and the Clintons were unable to use their vaunted private detective operation (Palladino & Sutherland) to reveal Baraq's phony life story.

Actually, I'm cheering him going after all the establishment on the illegal alien question.

I have no intention of voting for him in the primary unless its no other choice than him vs a RINO (Jeb!, Kasich, Christie, Gramnesty)

Now if it was him vs ______(fill in the blank Dhimmicrap)_____ in the general, then sure, no problem.

But that's a long way off and he's far from my first choice...and I'd imagine the vast majority of FReepers' first choice as well.

All the top tier GOP candidates except Walker have beltway stink on them. Since the GOP base is beyond disgusted with DC it’s easy pickings for Trump.

Obama has more hidden skeletons than any president ever. Trump can just ride the press for not touching BO’s skeletons but bringing out everyone else’s and his numbers will continue to skyrocket. People were furious at the lack of vetting for BO.
