WARNING: The video above may be too graphic for some viewers. Watch with discretion.

CINCINNATI - UC police officer Ray Tensing's body camera video clearly shows that he committed "murder" when he shot and killed an unarmed black motorist at a traffic stop, prosecutor Joe Deters said Wednesday.

The shocking video shows Tensing, standing outside the driver's door, with 43-year-old Sam DuBose at the wheel, talking peacefully for about 90 seconds. Tensing repeatedy asks DuBose to produce a driver's license. DuBose says he has a license but he doesn't have it with him.

Frankly, after several viewings, I'm still not sure what happened. DuBose is drunk and without his license, but something provoked the officer to draw his gun.

Maybe some FReepers with more experience viewing this kind of rough footage will have a better prespective.

This was a University policeman? Not good news.

When I was at U.C. Berkeley, the Berkeley city police had a reputation for being experienced and good and not losing their cool (you can imagine they had bad situations to deal with every day), but the U.C. police were basically security officer junior Nazis with a gun.

I have watched it several times. It was difficult to hear what was going on as the victim was not speaking clearly. But had I been the cop I would have certainly been on guard. He did not have a DL, he handed the cop a bottle of alcohol, he was being evasive but most of all, he was continually moving and reaching for items in the car. He reached under the seat to get the alcohol and I think the cop showed remarkable restraint at that point. I would think if the cop wanted to kill him, that would have been the moment.

As far as I can tell from watching this video which is very shaky at some points, the officer seems to have murdered the man.

Maybe there was some weapon right at that critical point that I can’t see bc of the shaky video, but I don’t think so.

Either he accidentally discharged his weapon in the man’s face, or he shot him on purpose.

Either way, I think the cop is going to be in trouble.

I think the cop pulled his gun and then accidentally pulled the trigger as he raised it toward the driver, who was revving the engine and pulling away. It happened pretty fast. Not sure if it’s outright murder but negligent manslaughter definitely.

The reality is that ANY police shooting, of anybody, but particularly a black person, is going to cause a riot unless there is incontrovertible footage showing that the officer was attacked with a deadly weapon and rightfully in fear of their life.

That is just the way things are now.

A few bad apples, and their fellows who have put the ‘blue line’ ahead of common sense and humanity, have changed the rules of the game.

I’m sorry for the good cops, but in the second decade of the 21st century in America, the person with a badge using lethal force is presumed guilty until proved innocent. Trial is by media and mob.

Adapt or die.

DuBose started his car. He was ordered to take off his seat belt and get out. He started his car.

This reminds me of that Eric Garner idiot.

There is no question that DuBose was gonna run. And since it is SOP for an officer to use deadly force when a fleeing suspect uses his vehicle as an assault weapon; DuBose is dead.

Debate all you want to about if the officer’s life was in danger or not. The fact is - cops have been shooting at fleeing suspects for decades. It what they do. They are allowed to.

But since DuBose is black - it’s now all of a sudden a big deal?

After several viewings the man detained was uncooperative. Then he started the car, put it in gear, and tried to drive away. That is felony fleeing and resisting. The officer’s hand and maybe arm is in the car as the man tries to drive away. The officer feeling endangered, shoots. It looks like an open and shut case of resisting to me.

I guess I missed something in the video. The officer pulled him over for a license plate violation. Asked for license and got a serious runaround several times. Asked that the guy get out of the car. Didn’t seem to comply. Looked like he sped off. Officer felt threatened apparently and drew and fired. Help me here.

I can’t say for sure if the man had a weapon or not, but I wasn’t able to see one in the video provided.

He was also very reachy and jumpy.

But I have to say that I can’t see any reason for him to be shot.

I had to watch it a couple of times to get an idea of when the shooting occurred. After disagreeing with the cop about the license plate and being evasive about his driver license, and having a bottle of alcohol next to him, the officer told him to get out of the car. Instead the driver closed the door and started the car. The officer pulled his weapon and some type of struggle ensued and that’s when the shot was fired. The car took off on its own, which indicates the car was in gear when he was shot.

I’ll wait for the trial. Or you could just listen to some on FR who convict every accused cop from the comfort of their office chair.

it seemed like it could have been an accidental discharge to me as well, but I can’t be sure.

Don’t wanna get shot? Then do everything a LEO tells you to do, immediately & carefully, and without any resistance, complaint, back talk, or attempt to flee. Only making it worse if one does not comply. And then the LEO is forced to make a split-second decision, yet sometimes in hindsight he does so incorrectly, and the resister winds up deceased. Plenty of time later for a lawsuit, if that’s what one wants.

Canadian in the White House has got his brothers acting “foolishly.”

It iss the University of Cincinnati. Not University of California. UC is a college in Cincinnati, and not in a nice neighborhood. It has about 40,000 students.

Murder?

If someone tries to run your ass over with their car and you defend yourself, that’s murder?

As I understand it - cops have had a green light for years to shoot a fleeing suspect. They make out like the suspect was going to run them over and BANG! They shoot.

Was not Tensing knocked down? Maybe he fell down after he shot DuBose, but it was - per regulations - a clean kill.

But - because DuBose is a protected minority - CVS’s gotta burn.

One I can watch: http://www.wlwt.com/news/body-cam-video-depicting-fatal-shooting-of-sam-dubose-viewer-discretion-advised/34422368
Skip the first half.

Cop was reaching in the car when the fellow took off.
Definitely presented a serious danger to the cop, don’t think it warranted deadly force though was a violent assault against an officer - so I guess I’m “unsure”.

“The fact is - cops have been shooting at fleeing suspects for decades. It what they do. They are allowed to.”

SCOTUS said no, they are allowed to only under specific circumstances.

Your assessment is correct. And for years cops have shot and fired in these situations. And they get away with it.

But - since DuBose is (was) black - then it’s now a racist issue.
