The best presidential debate of the 2012 election cycle was the GOP Presidential Forum run by (believe it or not) Mike Huckabee.

The questioners were all state attorneys general, and the quality of both the questions and the candidates' performances was way above any debate I've ever seen moderated by the MSM.
