Geeminy, I remember when John Kennedy reluctantly had to decide on Lyndon Johnson, and wasn’t that at the Democrat convention? As you say, when the time comes. I hope it comes and he doesn’t fear he may win and leave the race! Yikes! Just random thought there.

” The man built a skyscraper in New York City – of course, he had donated to Democrats. If he was building it in Salt Lake City, I’m sure he would have donated to Republicans.”

LOL. I’m actually not sure that people on our side quite understand what she’s saying. EVERYTHING is political when Democrats are in charge. Apply for a plumbing permit and City Hall just may ‘lose it’ and make you apply again - and slam your schedule by 60 days. Next up is the electrical permit...

You want to build in NYC, you pay the “Official Price” for the permit, and you sure as hell better pay the “Unofficial Price” for the permit, or you’re never going to lay a brick.

“I really think Trump will get his clock cleaned in some early primaries and will bail out. His personality will only go so far when it gets down to business with the voters.”

A lot of us who desperately wanted Bush Sr. to win in 1992 were hoping that Perot would flame out. In fact Bush Sr. went OUT OF HIS WAY to avoid antagonizing Perot because he was told that Perot would, of course, flame out and Bush needed to be positioned to get those votes.

Perot DID NOT flame out. He took 19% of the vote, allowing Clinton to win with just 43% of the vote.

Trump is a MUCH BETTER candidate than Perot...he’s not about to flame out.

“since he obviously already has plenty of Palin-styled conservative support”

Actually I’ve read twice now that Trump is doing better with the moderate side of our party than the conservative side. He still has a bit of distance to cover there...and Palin will help a lot.

Also I don’t see a risk with Palin, unless he chooses her for VP.

“Given his already meteoric rise, I don’t know why he felt the need to risk losing votes by bringing up Palin either,”

This is the kind of conventional wisdom thinking Trump rejects, namely the idea that being associated with Palin costs him votes. I could just as easily say I can’t understand why Trump would risk losing Hispanic votes by talking so tough about the border. But it’s far from clear that this is costing him in the Hispanic community, where many who came here legally also believe in the rule of law.

I don’t know if Trump will put Palin on the ticket or not, but it’s definitely smart to praise her during the primaries, most grassroots Republicans still highly respect Palin, and this association gives conservatives some reassurance that he is really with them.

EVERYTHING is political when Democrats are in charge.

I do not see how a large corporation or a billionaire could not end up supporting both Repub and Dem candidates. It is incumbent and prudent to stay on both sides of the aisle when your enterprises stretch across many congressional districts and state lines.

You both have made really great points, that are important for me.

Especially that Trump is scoring somewhat better with moderates than with conservatives. I had not heard that break down, and actually had assumed the opposite. That assumption was what made me think he would lose a chance at moderates by throwing out compliments to Palin .

Instead, he needs more conservative support, so that makes more sense. I don’t know if it will pay off, but it makes more sense. We will see if it does. Soon.

Thanks, Rita

Thanks...I was just poking around a few polls and Trump is “somewhat stronger” with moderates than conservatives. I suspect that conservatives don’t quite trust him yet (which is why Palin is important), whereas moderate-leaning people don’t trust anyone (usually with good reason), so they look at Trump’s populist positions and like them.

Exactly. There are probably some Republicans that everyone fair, but I doubt there is a single Democrat that does. You have to PLAY BY THEIR RULES and that means money.

Amen. It’s amazing, when in places like Dim ran NYC, to see the number of permits required AND posted, on any type of construction project. I think there must be a specific union group just to install the proper union approved building permits. Geez.

Nothing like that in Texas.....yet. Keep Texas red :)

Trump diagnoses our problems as incompetent leadership.

Although he's right on that point, the heart of the problem is that although the majority of voters nation wide lean toward political conservatism they continue to elect self-proclaimed "conservatives" who are actually liberal wolves in conservative sheep's wool.

That means that the very same people we conservatives send to congress lie to us by claiming to be conservative, but once they get to Washington their false "conservatism" is the 1st thing that goes in the waste basket. IMHO the two most deceptive false "conservatives" in congress today are the Senate majority leader and and the House speaker, both of whom talk conservative but do nothing at all to restore the conservative government that our forefathers won for us at the cost of their own lives. In fact, most of the people we elect to represent us in Congress are far more devoted to advancing and protecting their own careers than they are to restoring government by and for the people who they represent.

Shame on them for betraying the voters who elected them, and shame on us for continuing to elect them even though they haven't done what they promised to do, but instead did what we didn't elect them to do.

Sarah and Trump are like two peas from the same pod…

<><><><><><<

Wait, I thought Palin and Reagan were like 2 peas in a pod.

Does this mean that Trump is comparable to Reagan?

JFK didn’t decide on him. He was obligated to offer it to LBJ, but he by no means WANTED him. JFK was utterly shocked when LBJ accepted, because his preferred choice was Missouri Sen. Stuart Symington.

This is the best article on the Trump phenomenon I have read.

Same here, Louis. Thanks for the comment. This is as close to real-life Atlas Shrugged as we might get.
