Out of curiosity, how did the insurance company prove what they did?

Did someone witness their law breaking?

They (and the police) tend to know what arson looks like, since they've had quite a bit of experience with it. People trying to collect insurance tend to do things like moving their valuables out of the house before they set it alight; things of that nature.

They were stupid... they drew attention to themselves with the “hate crime” ,, and they likely made everything “perfect” for themselves. perfect alibi , “lucky” that Fido was at the groomers , use of liquid accelerants... To get away with arson is simple ,, just do it in such a way that it’s an accident... left something on the stove and fell asleep for instance... sure you look like a fool and you won’t be keeping that insurance company but they will pay and you won’t go to jail.
