It was a day no one thought they would be alive to see. After a half century of frosty relations between the United States and Cuba, the U.S. Embassy re-opened in Havana on Friday. Part of Barack Obama’s “make peace with everyone” tour, the move is the most visible example of the president’s pursuit of normalized relations with our southern neighbor. And, though probably not as ill-conceived as his nuclear deal with Iran, this move promises to be a costly mistake.
Senator Bob Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, was among the harshest critics on the historic day. “This is a one-sided deal that is a win for the Cuban regime and a loss for the Cuban people,” Menendez said. “The U.S. Embassy in Havana will be a hollow one. It will be diplomacy for show, not in practice. The United States’ flag should only fly in Cuba when the island is free, when dissent is embraced, and when democracy is restored.”
Menendez is hardly the only lawmaker coming out in force against the decision to open up the embassy. Senator Marco Rubio, a candidate for president, said the deal represented “the convergence of nearly every flawed strategic, moral, and economic notion that has driven President Obama’s foreign policy.”
As Obama’s deal with Iran was underscored by a hostile Ayatollah chanting “death to America,” his normalized relations with Cuba were met with a statement by Fidel Castro that shows how misguided this act of reckless diplomacy could be. Castro said the U.S. now owes Cuba “numerous millions of dollars” to make up for damage caused by the embargo. Knowing Obama, that money is probably in the mail.
John Kerry and Obama and their supporters want to make it seem as though opponents of this deal are stuck in the past. But that’s not the case. We’d all like to see normalized relations with Cuba. It could be of great economic and social benefit to both countries. In an ideal world, we would extend these relations to Iran, North Korea, Syria, and every other country with whom our relationships are strained. Obama is perfectly within his rights and responsibilities as a leader to pursue these aims.
The problem – and it is a big one – is how he goes about it. You don’t shore up diplomatic relations by giving away the farm and turning a blind eye to human rights violations. You don’t go in on your knees, begging. You go in with the full strength of the United States behind you and you make demands. If the other country doesn’t want to meet these demands, you tell them to take a hike. It’s really that simple. What are normalized relations worth if nothing has really changed?
I bet this faux administration will give the commie bastards ‘reparations”…. Can we send them our criminals (EVERY PRICK IN DC) like they did to us in ’79? Lets dump our prisons and send them to Cuba see how they like it.
Obama has angered the American Cubans and the Cuban Cubans by opening up an embassy that Cuban citizens are forbidden to visit.
Kerry is an empty-headed communist running dog.
“Normalizing” by waiting until Fidel died would have been more acceptable.
This is not a “mistake” and neither is it a “dumb move.”
HE commits these these acts ON PURPOSE.
This article assumes that Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing. At what point will people see all these loser deals (giving the farm away) the US is striking with its enemies are not an accident, nor coincidences, but planned sabotage by its president?
Obama works FOR Iran, Cuba, the muslim brotherhood.
He works AGAINST Israel, the US, and US allies.

This is why Trump resonates when he says “we don’t know what we are doing.” I think that in any deal made by the Obama Administration, the US ends up on the short end of the stick. Actually, it’s been that way for decades, but Obama has elevated suck to a new art form. The big question is: is this by accident or design? In the past, I’d have guessed accident. Under Obama, I’m positive its by design.
Correct; dissidents will be jailed, tortured, and killed. Obama will love it.
Americans should have learned with Carter and the Panama Canal. Commie/democrats are going to hurt America. It is what they do.
I don’t see any mention of Guantanamo yet. I’m waiting for that to be returned, as part of the normalization process.
Obama makes many mistakes. This is just one of many.
American should be concerned that Obama is embracing a sworn enemy of U.S. that tried to nuke NY and Washington and bomb Macy’s Bloomingdale and NY Central Station on Black Friday 1962, an attack, if no were for Hoover’s FBI, the Cuban terrorist attack would have killed more people than the Islamic attack to the NY twin towers in 9/11. The hatred of the Castro brothers against U.S. have not diminished in spite of comrade Obama’s embrace. There are in Cuba an advanced spy station operated by the chicoms, and another by the Russian that was closed after the dismembered of the Soviet Union and is now being modernized by Putin. Perhaps many of the hacking and cyberattacks are coming from those bases.
It is treason Obama’s surrender to Iran and communist Cuba
If Obama thinks his weak sister approach is getting the U.S. loved by the despots; he’s wrong. Every day that passes puts me closer to seeing the backside of Barack, Michelle & their kids. I hope.
If I were fidel or raul, I’d make an immediate pilgrimage to Iran for assistance in building a bomb, claiming, of course, the work was solely for “peaceful purposes.”
