Real estate developer and reality TV star Donald Trump, whose ascent atop early polls has shaken the 2016 GOP presidential primary campaign, will make a stop in Mobile Friday.
The "Donald J. Trump for President Pep Rally" will be at 7 p.m. at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are required to attend the event and are free to the public. They will be issued on a first come, first serve basis at Eventbrite.com. Overflow for the event will be located in the East Exhibit Area of the Mobile Civic Center.
The appearance is likely to draw a big crowd. Trump is soaring ahead other GOP contenders, according to national polling. A CNN/ORC poll, released Tuesday, shows his support at 24 percent among Republican registered voters with the nearest contender, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, at 11 points behind at 13 percent.
Trump is also polling strong in Alabama. A News-5/Strategy Research poll, released last week, shows "The Apprentice" star with 30 percent of support from GOP voters with Bush polling a distant second.
Trump's trip to Mobile is the first visit from a GOP presidential contender since the first major Republican debate.
Several other presidential candidates are expected to visit Alabama in the next week.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will headline the Alabama Republican Party's summer luncheon on Saturday. On Aug. 25, two candidates who have visited Alabama before Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson will be making another stop in the state. And on Aug. 26, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will be in Birmingham for a breakfast reception.
I received a nice notice about this event in my e-mail earlier today.
Go Trump Go!! Wish I could see him in Mobile, AL
Both polls in Alabama I have seen have him over 30...
He should do his speech on a platform on the deck of the USS Alabama. You could get a huge audience out there on the lawn
