Ten years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, President Obama will visit the city to celebrate its recovery.
Obama on Aug. 27 will meet with Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D), tour neighborhoods and meet with local residents. He will deliver a speech hailing the citys rebuilding efforts and how they have helped spur economic innovation, the White House said.
The 2005 storm was the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history, flooding 80 percent of the city, killing more than 1,800 people and leaving a million people displaced.
New Orleans was still reeling from Katrinas aftermath when Obama first took office, and next Thursdays trip will give him the chance to frame the citys recovery as a success for his administration.

There are still Katrina “victims” from New Orleans holed up in Texas ten years after the hurricane, sucking the shrived teat of FEMA. Wonder how many decades they can sit on their lazy a***s until they can “get on with their lives?”
We as black people, its time, its time for us to come together. Its time for us to rebuild a New Orleans, the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. And I dont care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day.
Nagin also stated that New Orleans will be a majority African-American city. Its the way God wants it to be.[2]
Talking points...
*Global warming
*Racial discrimination that still exists lead to [insert calamity here].
*Poverty and lack of opportunity
*Failed government response that can only be fixed with more government response
*Crumbling infrastructure
*And of course. Bush’s fault for playing with Cheney’s sinister hurricane control machine
If any question the power of liberals and the liberal media, Hurricane Katrina is a good example of their power.
The mayor of New Orleans was a Democrat. The governor of Louisiana was a Democrat. Even before Katrina hit the coast, Bush had already signed the declaration of disaster, enabling these good Democrats to get certain help from the federal government to cope with the disaster to come.
But in spite of all of that, everything that happened in New Orleans was Bush’s fault. The liberals politicized a hurricane. The liberals got away with politicizing a hurricane to hurt a GOP president. The liberals got away with absolving Democrats in charge in Louisiana of any responsibility for lack of preparedness and lack of disaster response.
Bingo! IIRC the Obama administration was strangely silent for WEEKS while the BP spill continued to gush.
But he’s taking credit for the billions in post Katrina disaster aid, most of which was allocated during Bush but simply disbursed in successive chunks going forward into his term.
Another example of Dems talking down to their constituents.
Maybe he should be marking the one month anniversary of the EPA toxic disaster.
For Valerie Jarrett's Birthday they probably fly to Tehran with a few hundred close friends.
The White House logs would say golf at Pebble Beach.
Who would know; or care.
Why is he showing up TWO DAYS EARLY?????
The anniversary of Hurricane katrina is August 29th.
I guess, as in everything else Obama, he likes to come early and come often.
And, yet again, the Mississippi Gulf coast and Bayou la Batre, Alabama are completely ignored. Anyone who listened to the media would think that New Orleans was the only place hit.
On the bright side, though, at least they won’t have to suffer through a visit from Barky.
Was watching the view while writing today and I heard 0Bummer say the first thing he did was go get a shrimp poboy. Moochele may not like that as poboys are not in her dietary planner for the kids at school. Too many calories, not enough health food. IT doesn’t resemble mush! Please sir, may I have ‘nother?
the view = the five on Fox News
