That's easy. They want it to stay wealthy and prosperous so it can make their lives better. The fact that they are bringing ideas which will change it into the third world hellholes from which they came is beyond their ability to comprehend.
I think your post makes the most sense and captures the situation we have today most accurately.
In other words — we are slowly being screwed unless we change things.
