House GOP leaders desperate to avoid shutdown [Planned Parenthood $$]
Politico ^ | 08/25/2015 | JAKE SHERMAN and ANNA PALMER

An explosive confrontation brewing between the House Republican leadership and conservatives over Planned Parenthood is threatening to shut down the government for the second time in three years. And House GOP leaders have yet to settle on a strategy to avert it.

Desperate to avoid another closure, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his team would prefer to build bipartisan opposition to funding the group through a series of high-profile Congressional investigations. But, at this point, that seems unlikely to cut it with a bloc of House conservatives who have said they simply won’t vote for a large-scale spending plan that funds Planned Parenthood.

Funding runs dry Sept. 30, so Republican leaders have barely have a month to figure it out.

Many GOP aides are skeptical of using a funding bill to cut off the group’s government money, aware that the legislation would likely die in the Senate. And, even if Congress could broker a deal on Planned Parenthood, anything that cuts its government funding would likely be vetoed by President Barack Obama.

Instead, House GOP leaders would rather use’s Congress’ broad investigative powers to build an overwhelming case against the group, which they believe would allow them to hammer Planned Parenthood for months and put Democrats under enormous pressure to turn against the women’s health organization.

But conservatives – led by Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-Ohio) Freedom Caucus – are girding for battle. They see the fight over Planned Parenthood’s money as one of the top legislative priorities of 2015, and they are eager to do anything to end government support.

Shut down the government, file Articles of Impeachment against Obama, win 2016 in a LANDSLIDE!

But the GOPe would rather Hillary win than have True Conservatives gain power.

Relax, GOP Leaders! Have another cocktail! You won’t have to worry about such matters much longer.

I don't think the Clinton precedent is encouraging.

My take is, if there is no chance of serious consideration by the Senate, it's simple mental masturbation.

There they go again!

The left, this time by Polutico, linking GOP and govt shutdown. This is FALSE. The PP funding turnoff is a PP funding turnoff, period! The congresscritters who would shut off the peanuts (overall) of PP funds want to fund the entire remainder of the govt. It's the 'Rats and PP cheerleaders, that won't accept a PP fund turnoff that would be "shutting down the govt".

No there has the courage to do that! What a joke! Don’t expect anything from them but more meaningless dog & pony shows like Trey Gowdy’s Benghazi investigation, the IRS investigation, the Fast & Furious investigation and on and on! Don’t expect any real statesmen from the self serving blovicators that are the uniparty congress.

House Conservatives need to make it clear and make it stick. Failure to defund Planned Parenthood will result in new House Republican leadership.

We’re watching. And we’re mad as hell.

What’s “mental masturbation” is thinking the GOP want to defund PP. What’s clear by their actions is they do not want to defund and are now looking for the best way to lie about that fact to GOP voters.

I know, Boehner! You could just offer to Obama to make Planned Abortionhood into a Federal agency!

GOP “Leaders” - More afraid of the DemocRATS and the MSM than they are of their constituents.

Enjoy it while you can boys—This is the last time.

Yep. The Surrender Party has to bend over one last time for Obama and they want to make it a good one. The GOP leadership will roll everything into a couple bills and use Dem votes if they have to. September is going to be ugly.

I want the Republicans to shut it down. When people see there is no change, maybe we can eliminate some agencies’.

Every time repubs make a cut in a budget that results in a ‘Rat shutdown, the enemedia blames the repubs. Then, the repubs cave, and the original cut is restored.

We need to shift the blame part of that equation to stop the repubs from caving, to get a specific cut.

This illustrates what I’ve said before: the establishment wants the campaign issue.

They don’t want to defunded PP. They want the issue so you’ll vote for them with their promises to defunded. Which they won’t do. Because they want the issue.

Enter The Donald, stage right. We now have a Trump card that outranks the race card. Fire for effect.
