I agree...I worked 51 years straight with no lapses in employment...I paid into it...I earned it...

I retired on the cheap, no big house or golf course, but, I do have a small place paid for in the country, I like it, no frills but we eat well.

One big reason that the Social Security program is no longer working is because we, the American Government and people, have killed off a whole generation and then some, with abortion. The American people wanted to have free sex with no consequences and abortion was the easy way out and of course no responsibility.

I agree also. I paid into this for 50 years. Never asked to never even got to hold the money they just took it. To my mind I involuntarily lent the Fed Gov this money at no interest. SSN is a loan repayment and I probably won’t live long enough to get all my money back

You paid a tax for 51 years, you “paid into” government. Your check is not income you earned, it’s somebody else’s money that they earned and is given to you.

Is there any wonder it is so popular?

And those who were retired and receiving social security while you were working took your money and lived on it.
You have to remember it was set up purposely so the working generation pays for the upkeep of the retired generation. It only sort of works if you have more people putting in then taking out and working demographics & age of mortality reflect the 1930s. Guess what they don't and the truth is it never could! Insurance executives at the time warned Congress that it could never work in the long term. (They were evil business people! So boo hiss! Don't listen ! They like profit! /sarcasm) The system was cynically created to permanently create a dependent class beholden to those working and the government meaning “elected or appointed” democrats. The “current group working” will also more or less vote democrat in order to not starve grandma & grandpa.
So yes you paid into it but it immediately went out the door, you do have the USG IOUs that the new “working generation” can be persuaded by Rat politicians to keep the Ponzi scheme going.
