Reid: GOP 'scared' of taking on Trump
The Hill ^ | September 8, 2015 | Mark Hensch

Posted on 09/08/2015 1:05:48 PM PDT by maggief

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday said Republicans running for the White House are scared of taking on Donald Trump.

Reid said Trump's unflagging support in the polls is making him immune to criticism.

“Why do the Republicans who are running for president never criticize him on anything?” Reid asked during a taped interview in the Lyndon B. Johnson room near the Senate floor, according to CNN.

“They’re afraid to,” he said of the GOP’s 2016 presidential field. “He’s speaking for them. He just does it in a different tone and different language.” Reid argued on Tuesday that Trump is surging in voter support nationwide because he is representing the views of GOP voters on the national stage.

“He is speaking to their hearts — that’s what they believe,” he said of Trump’s political stances on immigration, foreign policy and government.

“Finally, they have got somebody that is going directly to them,” Reid said. “They agree with him.”

“That’s why he’s resounding to his benefit,” the Nevada lawmaker added. “They like what he says.”

Reid charged on Tuesday that the 2016 presidential field had only challenged Trump once, after he mocked Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) during a forum in July. Trump questioned McCain's military service, saying he prefers heroes who "weren't captured" — a reference to the senator's time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

“The only time they’ve ever jumped on him is the time he said John McCain is not a war hero,” Reid said on Tuesday.

“That’s a pretty easy one because everyone knows John McCain is a war hero,” he added. “Where are they on all of his other slanderous statements?”

Reid additionally dismissed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s efforts to attack Trump on the campaign trail.

“If he has, no one’s noticed,” he said of Bush’s verbal jabs at Trump this summer.

Reid’s remarks come as Trump is leading the race for next year’s GOP presidential nomination across multiple national polls. The outspoken billionaire has weathered repeated criticism since launching his Oval Office bid in June, and now has a solid lead in all of the early voting states.

I’d like to hear Mr. Trump present his opinion of Harry Reid:

(One of the few people on Earth who makes Judas look good...)

(Well, at least, Benedict Arnold didn’t betray America for the money...)

As well they should be. They are lightweights pretending they can and will take care of the constitution

Who knows if trump will do that— but he’s not a lightweight

We’ll probably be hearing from Trump pretty soon about this. I know Trump would really like to take on the little runt.

Harry Reid, for once, has gotten something almost right. The Republicans are a little headshy of taking on The Donald directly, because it almost always ends badly for the one attempting the assault, and The Donald winds up with a BOOST in his ratings.

The other Republicans are not touching that with a ten-foot pole any more.

The Democrats decline to take any shots at Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold & Joyless, because they KNOW what happens when you shoot at the Queen and miss. And they will miss every time, because all the “leaders” within the Democrat party have already allowed their testicles to be secured in a lockbox, Herself has enough dirt from “opposition research” on each and every one of any potential competitors that may try a frontal assault upon Herself.

The Democrats are on a sort of death watch, Biden their time until Herself finally implodes for the final and most glorious time.

In all seriousness I’d say that the GOP is afraid of doing ANYTHING except alienating the base.

I’m tickled to death the way this is all playing out. Polls are now showing that Clinton can’t beat Trump and that Biden can. Hopefully, this will spook the Democrats and they will vote to nominate Biden and throw out Clinton. Trump then drops out and Cruz goes on a tear. I might just be dreaming but I’d sure like to see it.

Trump has taken on the GOPee....why do think they made him sign a pledge? Have the other RINOs signed it yet?

If it wasn’t for him, nobody would be talking about immigration, the wall, Mexico, China, Medicare, 19 trillion dollar budget, the Veterans and how badly they are being treated, making friends with our Allies again, rebuilding the military, making America energy independent, rebuilding our roads, bridges, and airports, stopping our manufacturing jobs from moving to different countries so we would have jobs here for our people, stopping other countries from stealing our military technology, and stopping other countries from trying to manipulate the currency so America can compete with other countries....

So tell me, Dingy Harry, just what have you done for 8 years except bow down to every dictator in the world????
