Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative Democrats announced Wednesday that they are scaling back their ambitious proposal to address climate change amid ongoing opposition from the oil industry and some lawmakers.
Brown and Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon, a Los Angeles Democrat, had pushed a far-reaching proposal to cut petroleum use by half, boost renewable-electricity use to 50 percent and double energy efficiency in existing buildings. De Leon announced Wednesday that they he was dropping the mandate to cut oil use from his proposal.
With just two full days remaining for bills to emerge from the current legislative session, a massive lobbying campaign from oil interests could not be overcome, de Leon said. "We couldn't cut through the multibillion-dollar smoke screen created by big oil with a bottomless war chest," he said.

Kevin, stick SB350 up your obama.
What he actually meant to say the the people of California who still have some common sense told him to get BENT.
California still has an economy that runs on petroleum, and their IDIOTIC rules would destroy the State and it’s economy.
Typical Lib/Prog/Commie/Demonrat/Nazi thinking.
Funny. The CA democrats found they could not change physics.
How long are we going to let the inmates run this asylum? Gaak!
The hyperbole of the eco-freaks has its limits. It's nice when common sense, real science, and reason prevail.
Scaled back from bat-$hit crazy to merely insane?
“... proposal to cut petroleum use by half, “
Are they talking about petroleum jelly? If they do that there will be severe cases of anal rashes in the gay community.
Jerry Brown stated yesterday in a rant after the vote that he would have the California air resources board pass rules to enforce this (against the peoples wishes).
They are unelected bureaucrats. Democrats do not believe in democracy.
Well, I want to relate an event which may have helped my Mayor change his mind on “climate change” and all this junk stuff the Governor is trying to do to the State of California.
Several weeks ago, I received a “re-election email from my Mayor”.
I had heard him mention “climate change” stuff several times, and I was not pleased. So .. as a good voter should, I wrote back to him and read him the riot act. And .. along with my gripes, I gave him information about who he could select to check out the REAL issue of “climate change”. I also gave him book suggestions, and even offered to deliver my own copies to his office .. if he would like.
Then, I said THIS: If you pursue this “junk science” garbage and foist it upon our City, you will destroy our economy. I really don’t think that’s what you want for your legacy; and .. if you still continue to follow the “climate change” garbage, you can not count on me to EVER vote for you again.
I did not receive a reply.
Recently, I saw a video of my Mayor; while he was sitting with the Governor - and I discovered that the Governor had VETOED the new “gas plan” to force people to reduce their gas usage by 50%.
I can’t help but wonder if my conversation with my Mayor had anything to do with changing his mind; and I’m wondering if he took my advice and got the books I mentioned. And, as an aside, the Mayor looked happy in the video; smiling; and the Governor looked like a cowed puppy.
I hope someday I will be able to find out what happened in their meeting.
Which is your mayor? I think the issue for people like your mayor is not the science. It’s the money and the pressure. Big Business is pushing this global warming thing with all they’ve got. It’s a carrot and stick approach, and they make it hard to refuse. Regardless of whether you believe or not.
San Diego.
And .. we happen to be one of the few large cities in CA that has been prospering .. and so far, he’s been doing a great job.
I’m aware of the push from the green people .. and big business who are coordinating hitting these cities, trying to tell them they have to re-do everything. Yeah, it’s all about the money.
