Dozens of Las Vegas gun control activists rallied in the west valley Thursday night as part of a national push to get Congress to act on their behalf.
Moms Demand Action, part of the Everytown for Gun Safety organization, held gatherings across the U.S. as Congress returned from recess. State senators joined families and activists near a bus stop on the corner of West Sahara Avenue and Fort Apache Road to hold signs, share opinions and stories, and also to tweet.
State Senate Minority Leader Aaron Ford, D-Las Vegas, spoke at the event about the most recent legislative session's "crazy" gun bills, including an expansion of the state's "stand your ground" laws. He said numerous high-profile shootings this summer raise the idea that Nevada needs to expand background checks for firearm purchases.
Activists at the event brought up national tragedies such as the June slaying of nine people at an African-American church in Charleston, S.C., and the August shooting death of TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward in Virginia at the end of August. A pledge by Parker's father to "do whatever it takes" to reduce gun violence inspired the theme for Thursday's gatherings and the Twitter hashtag #WhateverItTakes.

The FBI already have background checks, with every retail purchase of a firearm.
It is unto the States to write laws considering firearms laws.
It is the doctors, when presented with the law to report those that are actual mental patients to the FBI, to include them on the ‘do not sell’ list.
The government will retort, referring the orders given to the V.A. to find any reason to deny a veteran the opportunity to purchase and own a firearm.
These last, latest maniacs that have shot up folks, by the FBI background check, was found valed, to purchase a firearm.
It was the doctors, and the person’s supervisor, who failed to raise the flags on that.
Its never the criminal’s fault.
Never mind that no law would stop someone who wants to commit murder.
For liberals, more laws are needed where previous laws didn’t do the job.
DOZENS.
LOL
I am sure now that Mitch McConnell has given Iran Nukes this will be next on his agenda. Hey, if your Mitch you gotta “get stuff done.”
Really? That's a dangerous thought. In a totalitarian state, where only the government, police, and military have firearms, there would be little or no civilian firearms violence. Is this guy willing to do that? Because a fascist-run totalitarian state with a completely disarmed populace is probably the only way to significantly reduce "gun violence." So Parker, is that it, are you a fascist? No? Then be careful throwing around cute-sounding phrases and memes.
Activists at the event brought up national tragedies such as the June slaying of nine people at an African-American church in Charleston, S.C., and the August shooting death of TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward in Virginia at the end of August. ... "Background checks could have stopped that," Ford said. "It's perfect common sense."
No, Mr. Ford, you are wrong on two counts. One, background checks would not - in fact *did not* stop these. The guy that shot the reporter and cameraman *passed* a background check. The second part - common sense? Yeah, common sense Mr. Ford says you and your position are full of "it."
There are at least two problems with the notion that background checks stop or significantly reduce firearms violence. One, background checks only halt a firearms purchase if the person has done something on record to get flagged in the system. Sometimes, many times, there are no significant criminal nor crazy behaviors in someone's past to flag them. Two, there is absolutely no reason to expect criminals will only attempt to obtain firearms through legal means. They are criminals Mr. Ford, by definition they break laws. (that common sense thing again) That means they will obtain firearms through theft, straw purchases, from other criminals, etc.
Common sense is uncommonly rare among gun-control advocates. In fact, just saying you support "gun control" is saying you are ignorant of the facts, advocate infringement upon our rights, and are promoting a position that will lead to more violence. Common sense gun-control? No such thing, if you are pro-gun control, you are an idiot or at the very least acting like one.
While were not building innocuous nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles and instead are wanting to acquire and maintain decidedly much more dangerous Assault Weapons we should accept the change of a new century and have the same inspection regimen.
Specifically, we all should have 24 days in order to get our collective houses in order whenever we buy a gun
AND we should choosing who does those inspections
. And if we decide to check ourselves as with the Iranians, that should be fine with #Obama should it not?
Law nullified. Next?
Looks like nannie bloomers is getting off to an early start in NV to buy votes for the intergalactic background check initiative that will be on the 2016 ballot. Guess we can expect margabby kelley-giffords and dandy andy parker to show up as well. Of couse bloomers will be paying most of the freight to buy the votes of the UPOS/SPOS/LPOS/IPOS. End results—————little or no change to anything.
Yup, Mary Dozens, Henry Dozens, and the rest of the Dozens family.
What they really want is registration. They hide it in every so-called “sensible gun law” they bring forth.
“What they really want is registration”
Yes then confiscation.
Yep.
