I would place Trump and Carson closer to the moderate wing than the conservative wing. I suppose it depends on which issues are most important to the individual, but for me, they both are closer to that. Trump seems too fluid for my comfort. Carson becomes more liberal sounding the more I listen to him. I like the personalities of both. I can’t support them on the issues that matter most to me.

I took one of those “who’s your candidate for president” tests. My candidate based on the issues was Ted Cruz. No surprise there. But I agreed with Donald Trump on 75% of the issues. That’s not bad. Much better than phoney Romney or liberal McCain.
We could certainly do worse than Trump. Not that it matters, because we are all intentionally sustaining him until all the Establishment-preferred candidates are pounded into the electoral dust.

It’s too early to talk about Trump winning, but if he does, the pure conservative wing of the party had better get used to being upset. Some things are going to have people screaming “liberal,” other things, not so much. I think it is time to quit trying to define him on rigid left-right principles.
