Karl Marx supported Free Trade.
What does that tell you?

That you don't know squat about Karl Marx.

Look at the world around you fool. Our manufacturing now funds the war machine in China who imposes hefty taxes on what WE send to THEM. "Free trade" doesn't exist. The Communists have bought the rope with which to hang us, just as Lenin and the rest boasted they would.

Trump showing his complete and utter ignorance of how manufacturing works.

No, we don’t have “free trade” with China. That would require a Free Trade Agreement. And you still don’t know squat about Marx. Would you like to be educated, or simply wallow in your ignorance?

America is at a make or break point in. If we don’t start making stuff, America is going to break. We need tax revenues to keep critical programs functioning and that means we need to create tax payers i.e. jobs. And we don’t do that by encouraging companies to make things in other countries and then sell them back here.

In my particular case, I can tell the parts we’re making are headed to Canada or Mexico when the packers are asked to wrap the skids in plastic. But with regard to my most recent duties, if FCA (Chrysler) goes on strike . . . and it’s hour by hour now . . . the deadline has passed, I may be pushing a broom tomorrow. lol

Our trade deals forbid unilaterally putting taxes on imported products. More, they makes it impossible. The GATT allows our trading partners to arbitrarily tax our products in retaliation. The resulting pressure from this forces the president to rescind his taxes. Further, you can’t cancel the various trade pacts because they have a suicide clause. Suddenly, all of our products will be taxed by everybody.

He’s done a million press conferences and interviews since he first used that line—and nobody seems to have directly asked him about it.

Don't fall for that Karl Marx BS. Marx "supported" free trade only because he felt it would cause the proletariat to rise-up against the bourgeoisie. And the only folks you see making that argument are the protectionists (but not the smart ones).

So did Reagan.

He was wrong to do so. The only thing anti-protectionism results in is manufacturing and labor being exported to where it is cheapest.

Never mind the NAFTA treaty, right?

Well let's talk about that.

How well has NAFTA worked out?

It's been great for Mexico, they're expanding like crazy.

Meanwhile the manufacturing base in the US and Canada is being hollowed out.

So it can be asked - why are we still part of a trade pact that is destroying us? NAFTA was supposed to benefit all 3 countries, not just one.

And NAFTA's not set in stone, BTW. Any of the 3 countries can give notice and withdraw from it - which would probably be a net plus for the US and Canada.

We gave it a shot, it didn't work. Try something new.
