Texas GOP Rep. Randy Neugebauer says he'll retire from Congress next year after 14 years of House service.
The 65-year-old Neugebauer says he wants to spend more time with his family, including his 4-year-old granddaughter.
The genial Texan has cut a relatively low profile on Capitol Hill since his election in 2003. He serves on the Financial Services and Agriculture committees. He won a high-profile 2004 race after redistricting paired him against conservative Democrat Charlie Stenholm and has skated to re-election ever since.
He had radiation treatments this summer after a recurrence of prostate cancer but has been declared free of the disease by his doctors.

Not a surprise, Neugebauer has had health problems for a while. No speculation on who will succeed him, but it’s a safe Republican district. We need to get the most conservative candidate possible to win the primary. No need to cut corners here.
Try to find a conservative who has served in uniform; they’re in such short supply.
