BREAKING: Scott Walker Reportedly Suspending His 2016 Campaign
Townhall.com ^ | September 21 | Matt Vespa

Posted on 09/21/2015 2:05:18 PM PDT by Kaslin

The New York Times is reporting that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is withdrawing from the 2016 race:

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin has concluded he no longer has a path to the Republican presidential nomination and plans to drop out of the 2016 campaign, according to three Republicans familiar with his decision, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

[…]

“The short answer is money,” said a supporter of Mr. Walker’s who was briefed on the decision. “He’s made a decision not to limp into Iowa.”

There will be a live press conference at 6pm EST. Walker was seen as a strong contender for the Republican nomination, given his backstory and record as the governor of Wisconsin. He was leading in the polls in Iowa, but saw a precipitous decline in support throughout the summer. The latest CNN/ORC poll seems to have been the final nail in the coffin, as Walker barely drew 1 percent in the polls.

Gov. Walker is the second candidate to drop out of the race. The first was former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who suspended his campaign earlier this month.

Updates to follow after the press conference.

Well now. That IS a surprise (if true).

I would have expected that little pansy Lindsey Graham to have dropped out, or the GOPe’s latest hand puppet Bobby Jindal, or maybe that moron Pataki, but Walker?

This surprises me.

He might be reducing the number of conservatives in the running in order to increase the support for those that are still in. After all, what usually happens? A bunch of conservatives/perceived-conservatives trash each other in the primary and the single GOPe candidate cruises to victory. It would be great to see the opposite happen for a change.

Toughie. I liked Walker’s effort to “zap” public uniions.

Nah.....he still has to earn that $ 1,000,000+/yr lobbyist job with the Chamber of Commerce, before he leaves office : )

This is a direct case of Trump in the running. I’d hoped Walker would have been one of the last
To drop out. Guess he needed the money that lagged when Trump took over the message

Walker lives to fight another day.

It will be interesting to see where his organization ends up.

Wow, this catches me by surprise. Will have to verify. I was looking forward to seeing my governor in the final debates. I hope this is liberal wishful thinking from the NY Times.

Well he is a good man. The positive for me would be if a bunch of the others dropped out as well. If Walker can’t get it done then what chance do Graham, Jindal, Pataki etc have?

:-( I am sad. Walker is the first choice for me.

He has shown how to win in a Democrat state. Repeatedly.

Hope he continues to contribute to the body politic.

God bless you, Governor Walker.

Walker was over-managed by his consultants. He could have been a contender if he was let loose and relied on his political instincts. The immigration issue did him in. His flip-flops killed him.

Walker has to make a calculation. Does he remain governor, with a good chance of reelection, or, at this point, will he agree to a cabinet post in the next Republican administration?

Either way, it might make him a better candidate for the next presidential election, depending on who the VP is selected to be.

None. But they are not serious candidates. They are on an ego trip just like Lincoln Chafee.

That is putting it politely, but, yes, he hired RINO consultants that “corrected” him, making him look stupid and indecisive.

Damn dirty shame. He is a great governor and would have made a splendid POTUS. I sincerely hope he gets another chance. Hopefully, he learned something about the backstabbing habits of the GOPe to live to fight another day.

He’s definitely VP material...but would be awesome as Sec. of Labor.

No doubt that Walker is a strong tested governor. He came on strong but then faded. Many Freepers have commented that it was the 30 sec soundbite consultants that did him in and I think there is something to this argument.

Walker was seen as someone who could bridge the TEA Party and the GOPe. So money and consultants flowed is way and he quickly became empty K street horn. There was not much difference in a Walker interview in March vs an interview last week. In fact, Walker gave some of his "ending sentences" to answers at last weeks debate. IT IS A SHAME...
