To quote the Church Lady: isn't that conv-e-e-e-e-nient?
On Chris Hayes' MSNBC show tonight, Dem congressman Luis Gutierrez claimed that while he was "challenged" by the Catholic church's teachings on abortion and gay rights and found them "difficult" [but not difficult enough to change his standard liberal positions], no one can really argue the Pope's positions on illegal immigration and income inequality.

Dem congressman: Ok to challenge the Pope’s traditional views but not his liberal ones.

Gutierrez...illegal alien?
I believe Gutierrez is Puerto Rican. Therefore, legal.
This

says born and raised in Chicago of Puerto Rican parents
I’d say he’s a lifelong member of the Chicago political mob.
Luis is a ‘one note Sambo’.
Hey Luis!
What is so difficult about accepting the fact that it’s WRONG to kill your BABY?
What is so difficult to understand about promoting UNNATURAL PHYSICAL RELATIONS when it’s clear the plumbing doesn’t work?
What is so difficult to understand about NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY and maintaining the rule of law regarding the PROCESS for becoming a citizen?
CHARITY is a PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, it is NOT Government THEFT designed to BUY VOTES. Government “Income Redistribution” is NOT “Charity”!!!
Impy's Congressman. (I feel your pain!) At least Gutierrez admits he only wants to talk about the Catholic Church's viewpoint when it suits his needs (I bet the rest of the time, he joins his fellow libs in screaming "SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!").
Unfortunately for Luis, the catechism of the Catholic Church says the opposite about what issues can be argued. Issues like economics and immigration are considered shades of gray by the Catholic Church, and Pope Benedict noted when he was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that faithful Catholics can reach different conclusions and have legitimate different perspectives on those issues.
Abortion and gay marriage, on the other hand, are considered "intrinsically evil" and are always opposed by the Catholic Church. Any Catholic who supports abortion and gay marriage is in violation of dogma of the church. Sorry, Luis. The one bright side for you is the American bishops are usually liberal and gutless, so you'll probably get away with your heresy.
He's made it clear that he cares more about Puerto Ricans on the island and Hispanic immigrants more than the mainland Americans he's supposed to "represent", so I say deport him anyway. If he wishes to represent Puerto Rico, let him run for delegate there. He has no business serving as a Congressman from Illinois.
He can’t be deported but I’d love to shoot him out of a cannon into a brick wall.
Maybe it’s just familiarity breeding contempt but I swear, there are very few scumbags I wouldn’t prefer as my Congressman. I was actually disappointed I wasn’t redistricted into Danny Davis’ seat.
Hmmmm....
Imagine the acceleration, immediately followed by the ultimate deceleration.
