Its unofficial, but Barrow residents appear to like the same two non-traditional candidates that most Republicans do: Donald Trump and Ben Carson.
The Barrow County Republican Party held its second straw poll last weekend at the Statham Sunflower Festival (their first, smaller poll was at the annual GOP BBQ) and Trump was the favorite of a little more than one third of all who voted, garnering 132 votes or 33.5 percent.
Carson received 62 votes for 15.7 percent, while no other candidate received more than 10 percent.
According to a Barrow GOP release, the poll results were produced by registered voters.
While the overwhelming majority of participants were barrow county voters, some participants were from other counties, the release states. Although registered voters participated, based on their conversations with us, we believe the overwhelming majority of participants were likely voters for the March 1, 2016 Georgia presidential preference primary.
Your typical straw poll. Trump win Barrow County, GA. Hehe :-)
You got to Winder to find her.
This is in my neck of the woods.
Statham. The old home town.
Scott Walker for 4 votes after dropping out of the running. Go Trump/Cruz
