German Chancellor Angela Merkel joined leaders from Brazil, India and Japan on Saturday to push for seats in a revamped UN Security Council that they said would do a better job of addressing global crises.
Meeting on the sidelines of a UN development summit, the so-called G4 said they were legitimate candidates to become permanent Security Council members and backed each others candidacy. [ ]
There have been mounting calls for changes to the powerful UN council, which has been deeply divided over how to address the war in Syria, now in its fifth year with more than 240,000 dead.

The first step should be to remove any members with a xenophobic genocidal religion that commands them to murder non members.
Because shattering European nationalism and culture is just not enough of a goal for Merkel ...
And because the larger a committee is, the better it runs things ....
Good first step.
Second one ought to be removal of members with any shade of Marxism in their “governance”.
Third step is a total rewrite of the UN Charter so that it is no longer a clone of the 1936 USSR constitution.
(And then we wouldn’t have the useless UN anymore.)
I prefer “UN Security Council needs a new zipcode”, myself.
All permanent members of the Security Council sbould pay equal dues. If I remember correctly Japan and Germany were the cause of the U. N.
