A Republican state delegate is working toward a bid for Marylands open U.S. Senate seat, the first candidate with establishment support.
Del. Kathy Szeliga, who represents Baltimore County and serves as minority whip in the House of Delegates, is taking steps toward a campaign.
Im seriously looking at getting into this race and gauging support, and its really been actually overwhelming, Szeliga said.
She said that among those Republicans reaching out to encourage her effort, first reported Sunday by the Baltimore Sun, are Rep. Andy Harris, former governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. and his wife, Kendel; former lieutenant governor Michael S. Steele and former U.S. House candidate Daniel Bongino.
All have been considered potential Senate candidates themselves.
As a small business owner, mom and new grandmother, Kathy understands the concerns of Maryland families, Harris said in a statement. She will bring fresh leadership and will help change Washington the way Governor Hogan is changing Maryland.

Well, a respectable candidate in Maryland. I wish her well.
Dunno much about her, but we can hope.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Good news. She’s not likely to come close to winning but the other Republicans running are just names on the ballot, she’s at least a real candidate.
