MONTREAL — Marijuana is “infinitely worse” than tobacco and its use should be widely discouraged in Canada, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper says.

The remarks come the morning after the federal leaders’ French-language debate, in which Harper’s clash with Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau over the issue of legalization was among the evening’s more memorable exchanges.

While it’s worse, I’m not sure he had to use the word infinitely.

Its not like the stuff is so addicting that it will make people stay at home rather than work and play video games, right? Or make them fat and lazy and grow man boobs right?

All I know is I stopped smoking a number of years ago, and am very glad I did. I also tried pot a number of years ago, but stopped that as well.

I think we need to oppose both substances on principle, but we also need to be aware that reasonable people can start on either one of these, very simply.

I have no vices now, at all. But that wasn’t always the case.

Not sure what our stand on either drug should be. I would tend to be more “oppose, but at the same time don’t punish”.

I strongly tend to think our policies at the moment, cause more damage to society than the actual drug use does.

Again I am not saying I support drug use. In fact I very strongly oppose it now. In either form.

Just saying as a society we also need to recognize that good people are going through bad things, as a result of our current set of laws.

It may not be the worstest stuff ever, but it may be more uniquely bad than a lot of things.

Tobacco destroys the body but doesn't effect the mind negatively.

Pot destroys the body and mind. If people smoked the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes daily the bodily damage would be evident.

I won't respond to hallucinating pro-pot posts.

The heightened suggestibility caused by pot is responsible for a lot of the acceptance of cool-kid liberalism.

When you can, on demand, temporarily release pleasurable brain chemicals, you experience a false reality and naturally you’ll question/get confused on your value system.
