U.S. sees Russia readying ground campaign in Syria
CNN ^ | 10-5-2015 | Barbara Starr

The latest U.S. assessment of Moscow's activity in western Syria indicates Russia has moved several ground combat weapons and troops into the area to potentially back up Syrian forces in the field planning to attack anti-regime forces, according to two U.S. defense officials.

The U.S. views the move as Russia "stepping up its ground activity" in Syria to attack those forces, rather than ISIS elements, according to one of the officials.

It's believed the Russians are positioning the weapons to be able to support a Syrian ground offensive, the officials said.

The equipment includes several piece of artillery, as well as four BM-30 multiple-launch rocket systems -- all considered to be highly accurate weapons. The latter is capable of rapid-fire rocket launches.

Well, that's the world's worst-kept secret.

Anyone following Social Media has known that for days.

It's good to see CNN finally catching up. The Russians aren't trying to hide anything, they WANT the bad guys to know they are coming.

Jammer trucks, jamming pods, artillery, rockets, etc.

There was a pic posted on Twitter last night showing a bunch of newly arrived tanks, AFV's, and support trucks painted with Russian colors that had just arrived at the dock in Latakia yesterday.

[planning to attack anti-regime forces]

That will get Maverick McCain all fired up this weekend calling for shooting down Russian aircraft and who knows what else.

Know what? This is embarrassing.

We have/had the finest military ever seen in the world and we go to these places and suffer huge casualty losses and take many, many months to do relatively modest jobs all because the idiot politicians handcuff our guys with overwhelming ROE.

I HATE that! Any of their kids in the military? If so they wouldn’t put these ROE sandbags on the backs of our warriors.

Meanwhile, Russia just walks in and kicks it into gear without any concern.

Very upsetting.

I know you are aware of this, however, many who read this thread may not be...The “SMERCH” is a 300MM rocket. A very nasty piece of rocketry. Accurate. Devastating. If used with any frequency, one will be able to immediately observe an ever decreasing skyline.

The SMERCH has flaws, but none that anyone in the region other than us or the Israeli’s would be able to overcome.

And they aren’t targeted at Israel.

Ignore my last...
I read it wrong, and thought you were talking about the S-300’s.

Yes, the BM-30 can be a devastating area weapon, much more accurate than previous versions. Flechettes suck.

The interesting part is how the Russians fight compared to Americans. Don’t expect to see much whining in the press about how *insensitive* the Russians are to the “cultural values” of Muslims. First because the Russians don’t care at all about that, and second, because they shut down the media and communications first.

There will be zero effort to “win hearts and minds”, because those on the Russian side will have no real say in how the Russians do things; and those on the other side are not going to be given the opportunity to argue.

Yep, from our point of view, it will be ‘popcorn time’, while that weakling Obama wrings his hands and weeps at the loss of his beloved Muslims.

Interesting timing of Russia’s campaign in Syria. Right after the Iran Deal...approaching last year of Obama’s term...and weather in Europe will soon be cooling down. That would be the same region incidentally that depends on Russian gas to a large extent.

Russia is not obsessed and preoccupied with social diversity in its military either.

This will put a stick in the spokes of Obama’s plan to flood the west with young muslim male “refugees”.

McCain reminds one of Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper from ‘Dr. Strangelove’. The man is a psychopath.

I voted for him to stop O but I think this nutbag wants nuclear war with Russia. Or something.

Oy, what lousy choices we have had here, these last two elections especially.
