Walker says Zoo Interchange savings could keep other projects on track (WI)

Stoughton — Gov. Scott Walker Thursday promised savings on the massive Zoo Interchange project in Milwaukee and urged lawmakers to release $150 million in borrowing for road projects, saying together those two steps would be enough to keep at least five major highway projects from facing delays.

In other remarks Thursday, Walker said that he could appoint a new justice to the Wisconsin Supreme Court by the end of this week and that he also favored clearer rules on which bathrooms can be used by transgender students in public schools.

Walker's administration announced last week it was delaying the five highway projects and disclosed Monday it would be pushing back work on other smaller and still undisclosed projects.

The governor is asking his fellow Republicans in the Legislature to approve a large portion of the $200 million in additional bonding set aside for this year in the state budget, part of $350 million in reserves available for road projects between now and June 2017.

"We think there's money in particular in the Zoo Interchange and then we think there's a lot of other savings we can squeeze out elsewhere across the state from other projects," Walker told reporters while touring Stoughton High School. "My hope would be if not the $350 million at least particular in the first year...we can get something close to $150 million more. I think that would allow the projects we've talked about to go forward in this fiscal year."

Once again Thursday, Walker ruled out the idea of raising more money for roads through a gas tax increase without cutting taxes elsewhere

They say it’s all happening at the Zoo. I do believe it. I do believe it’s true!....Newt Gingrich loves time at the zoo. It calms him down. Or as Newt would say “Calista and I love the Zoo!”

Nope, nor did I ever imaging that the liberals could exert this much pressure and the conservatives would be so helpless to stop them.

I can help Walker with his bathroom decision....regardless of what you think you are, you are what you ARE.

Male people have a penis, female people have a vulva....there can be no mistaking one for the other.....picture them on the door if you have to and allow NOONE to violate reality.

The zoo interchange in Milwaukee just happens to be where the zoo is...it is a huge interchange at two major expressways crossing one another.
