I tried my best to get into liking this, as I was a big Muppet fan as a kid. I even though the more adult-directed humor would make it fun as an adult. Unfortunately the plot lines were dull and boring.

It won’t last to November.

It’s “The Larry Sanders Show” from HBO with puppets and without the humor.

Too bad. As an adult, I really enjoyed the Muppets during the 1970’s. Their entirely nonpolitical humor really was G rated in that it genuinely appealed to the sense of humor of all age groups. The space ship Swinetrek scenes were side splitters, especially for those of us who were raised in the 1950’s on shows like Flash Gordon and Captain Video. The satire, aimed at Dr. Zarkof of Flash Gordon, in the form of Dr. Strange Pork (double satire for Dr. Strangelove) was a scream. All of that was real art from a genuine genius, the late Jim Henson.

I don’t think the general plot lines were bad... the problem for me has just been the execution. Its too crass.. I have no issue with the general plot line that Piggy isn’t happy that she doesn’t have a date for an awards show, and when she gets a boyfriend she is generally happier... and the fact he turns into a pain in the butt and Kermit has to figure out how to get rid of him and does so by playing to Piggy’s ego... Nothing wrong, that’s a nice simple plot line ... but I don’t need the fact when Piggy is happy, that the lines from her have to be overtly sexual/crass as to the reason why... I also don’t need to hear about Piggy/Kermit free pass list... the joke at the end that came from it, along with the attempts to find her a date could have been approached without this reference/need... and all still worked.

I think the general ideas behind it are fine, its the execution that’s the issue, I don’t need two broke girls garbage coming out of the Muppets, they deserve better. The story could be told without alienating audiences or offending sensibilities and can be funny as well. I think prime time has just gotten too lazy to know you can write funny without being crass in the process.

I know this was rushed into production, and it could probably fix the issues, but if it turns off too many too quickly it will never last long enough so that new production can adjust.

It will be a shame if the hard work Jason Segel did to revive the brand and give it the proper respect that it deserved, is flushed right down the toilet for another 20 years.

I tuned in with great hopes, and tuned out within ten minutes.
What a disorganized unfunny and unentertaining mess!
