Crisis meeting: Grand Mufti ‘has deserted Muslims’ (schisms among Australian Muslims)

THE Grand Mufti has been accused of being out-of-touch with the Muslim community and abandoning them in the aftermath of the Parramatta shooting.

Parramatta mosque leader Neil El-Kadomi last night attacked the faith’s spiritual head Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed over his lack of support during the crisis.

“He did nothing when myself and my family were under siege for 14 days ... there were threats to my family, everything and he never came out to ask, ‘how are you?’,” Mr El-Kadomi said.

“I had the Anglican Church support me, the Uniting Church support me, one of the Jewish Board of Deputies supported me. I asked the Grand Mufti, ‘where were you hiding?’ We need a Mufti who can speak English, who is qualified to be a Mufti.”

I'm not entirely sure what to make of Neil El-Kadomi, the leader of the Parramatta Mosque. On the one hand it was his Mosque that the boy who attacked a police station killing a civilian employee, while screaming the name of 'Allah' visited just prior to his actions, but he's saying things that I've long wanted to hear Muslim leaders say. Besides this attack on the Mufti (who refuses to accept that the shooting was an act of terrorism), he said the other day:

"Many of you waited a long time to come to this country. You should not abuse the privilege. You are Australian, which is very important. If you don't like Australia, leave. Get out. We do not need scumbags in the community. We reject terrorism. We have to lift our heads up as Australians. We live in this community, in this society. We have to accept the good and bad and the ups and downs in this society."

They need a Grand Mufti who will stand up and support the Muslim Community!!

Well said, the Muslims I know are not of the Wahabist bent...

Those that follow that embrace the violence and seizing parts of the Koran and amplify them. Since the only retribution for whatever they do is “heaven” it will seem to many the easiest way to go
