Tom Coburn (R) from Oklahoma was the leading Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee which spent all its time vetting McCain and NONE vetting Obama. If Coburn had investigated Obama even a little, Obama would not be President.
That if we stand up and fight we can repeal Ocare. I can't point to one particular statement but I don't think anyone would argue that wasn't the message.
It wasn't realistic because there was no way we were going to get to 60 senators let alone 67.
Ted Cruz is a professional politician. As a professional it's his job to know his environment and how to influence it to achieve his goals. It's also his job to understand his caucus and know how they're going to react. Of course Ted understood all of this, as did any semi-astute follower of politics.
This isn't an indictment of Cruz, just an acknowledgment of what he is - a politician. Politicians do what they do and have always done. The problem is when voters forget how our system of government really works and project magical powers onto their candidates.

The issue is more than Coburn. He is insignificant in the big picture.
Obama was connected to Frank Davis, Bill Ayers and other radical communists as he was rising. The grandparents who raised him were communists. His mother was a leftist and involved overseas. In his book Obama mentioned he hung out with the far left professors and students in college. There must have been thick FBI files, if not CIA, file on Obama as he was rising.
Bush and Cheney knew what Obama was. Likely Colin Powell, John McCain, other high level Republicans, and the Clintons knew who Obama was and what he would do. None of it leaked out. why?
To this day, two supposedly “patriotic” US presidents, both with the last name of Bush, have refused to criticize the man who is tearing apart the Constitution, destroying the nation economically, socially, and politically. There complete silence from these two “patriots”. Why?
McCain and Romney ran pathetic campaigns, refusing to attack Obama aggressively while he ripped them apart. Why?
The Republicans in Congress have enjoyed the Constitutional power of the purse since January 2011. They could have stopped Obama in his tracks by refusing to fund any spaecific activity. They have done nothing to stop the tyranny and have enabled the oppression of the people? Why?
Not one military general or admiral has resigned out of principle and gone public to denounce the destruction of the armed forces from within. Why?
The nation’s press has been completely neutered with respect to reporting anything on Obama. All Obama encounters with the press are highly scripted and edited. The White House imposes censorship and rules on the press that would not have been tolerated in the past, yet the press is virtually silent with respect to any push back. Why?
The grassroots Tea Party movement, made up of decent hardworking average citizens, gave the GOP controll of the House in 2010, 2012, and the House and Senate in 2014. The GOP could have embraced the Tea Party and captured the White House in 2012. Instead of embracing the Tea Party, the GOP establishment joined with the Democrats in falsely labeling the members of the Tea Party as racist, hateful, homophobic bigots. Why?
The leaders of corporate America have turned against the free market and openly embrace statism, socialism, and government policies restricting the free markets essential to the growth of the economy from which the organizations they run benefit? Why?
The behavior of all of these actors, with the exception of a few like Cruz, suggests one of two things:
1) they are allied with Obama and willingly complicit with his mission to destroy the nation.
2) they fear for their lives and the safety of their loved ones.
By “country” he likely means big business.
The money train to the GOP’s corporate contributors probably comes to a screeching halt during shut downs if they fall into the non-essential services category.

I agree with all of what you said except “insignificant” regarding the last clear chance to make public who Obama actually was unless Coburn was also allied with those who supported Obama’s plans to destroy America. I don’t think Coburn had a clue. Therefore, he must not have been threatened. Coburn was ignorant (meaning he had the chance to learn but ignored it) and in love with his own tolerance and belief in “white guilt” led to acceptance of a black president without doing the hard work of investigating Obama, which was his job on the Judiciary Committee.
Obama and Hillary were on that committee (how convenient) and Obama was allowed to write a portion of their findings, which were all distractions. Coburn claims to be a patriot, but I would like to hear him explain why he did not INSIST ON VETTING OBAMA the way they did McCain.
BTW, on March 13, 2008 the secret meeting of the House was another chance to learn about Obama in a speech by Roy Blunt. The speech about what was going to happen in 2008+ has never been revealed except in a few sentences by the Gold and Silver Exchange, unverified. Enough was leaked to allow Bush’s Sec. of Treasury to have a fund and plan for dealing with a run on the Stock Exchange/Banks.
