Facing backlash, Trump dodges questions on 9/11 comments

Donald Trump, under fire for suggesting that George W. Bush shared in the blame for the 9/11 terrorist attacks because they happened during his presidency, repeatedly declined to engage with reporters about the matter Friday night -- opting instead to continue a long-running feud with Jeb Bush on Twitter afterwards.

Trump regularly speaks with reporters at campaign events and often takes multiple questions in an impromptu manner, making his silence Friday all the more noticeable.

No one needs to defend political generalities.

Trump should clarify by saying ...

It's difficult inheriting failed natsec policies, but would Jeb's hypothetical presidency provide greater assurance than his brother's?

I love Dubya, and of course Dubya isn't responsible for 9-11. But we're speaking to Jeb's combined arrogance and ignorance.

I saw Trump’s interview. Does FDR bear any responsibility - at all - for Pearl Harbor? If you said yes, then you probably agree with Trump, and feel that Bush bears at least some responsibility for 9/11.

But if you feel that FDR was simply a victim of a sneak attack, then you probably feel that same way about Bush.

As for me, well, I guess I’m neutral on this issue (or issues).

He didn’t blame Bush for it, and he didn’t imply that Bush was responsible for or that Bush was partially responsible for it.

The media is implying that Trump implied that.

Trump simply stated a fact, it occurred on Bush’s watch, and that it did.

And as far as keeping us safe... He kept most of us safe, but the people that died that day most certainly were not safe, so yeah.

What have we done since that day?

Helped establish a muslim caliphate, helped create a muslim invasion of Europe and elsewhere, including here apparently, and we are teaching islam to young children and making sure the ilk of those that murdered our citizens get every damn thing they want and then some.

I don’t feel safe more, and all of this sh*t started on Bush’s watch, so there you go.

Pearly Harbor was FDR’s unfortunate, cowardly sacrifice for his many years of Presidential negligence. Dubya was in office for 9 months, and was scrambling to unravel the security nightmare he ‘inherited.’

I like Trump but he did step in it. And it has made him look really stupid.

I do also think that he needs to stop with the Dem talking points, of which this is one. If you recall in the prior debate when Jeb said “and my brother kept the country safe” my twitter timeline was littered with far left liberal dudes exclaiming “No, Bush didn’t keep us safe. 9-11 was on HIS watch”

I don’t fault GWBush for 9-11. That was a unprecedented event that was pretty much unthinkable on many levels until after it happened.

And despite Bush’s mess in Iraq, for the 2-years post 9-11, he, Rumsfeld and Cheney aggressively pursued the war on terror and I think did a great job.

What are you linking me to?

I read the story, I see what Donald said, he didn’t imply responsibility, he stated a fact, and others are implying that he implied responsibility.

I stated, in response to Jeb Bush saying that his brother kept us safe, that there were somewhere around 3,000 people that his brother did not keep safe. That happened on his watch. So what Jeb Bush should say is that his brother kept most of us safe, but in fact some of us died horrible deaths that day.

And all I have further to add to the subject is that since that day this nation has taken one Hell of a wrong turn, and that wrong turn started on his brother’s watch too.

However, I do still respect his brother for his leadership on that day and in the days after despite any mistakes made.

But I do not respect where we have ended up at all.

Were in bed with the damn bastards that did this, and it makes me sick to my stomach just to think about it.

My core point here is that we cant afford a Guy who is constantly ST EPPING in it ..as...POTUS.

the whining FOX boycott that didnt exactly go MARATHON was one thing...but this was entirely over the edge.

the real Donald is leaking out around the frayed edges

There is no need to “simply state a fact,” except to have the listener draw a negative inference from this. Trump needs to attack the presumptive Democratic nominee and not indulge in this never ending petty bickering and using cheap kid’s play “tweets” and spanned his time watching TV to know what others say about him. The Presidential race is not some reality game. Trump gives the impression that he is out of his depth dealing with complex issues of American foreign policy or the spiraling deficits or the kinds of individuals he will nominate to the federal judiciary or to seek a constitutional amendment to define marriage between a man and a woman.

Time for Ted Cruze to emerge. It’s gonna be Cruze or lose.

I don’t recall Trump saying Bush was responsible for 9/11. Only that Jeb said that George kept us safe during his term, but Trump pointed out 9/11 happened during his term so Jeb was factually incorrect

What he said doesn’t need any answers, it’s a fact.

Just because a bunch of morons can’t understand it or refuse to accept it doesn’t change the fact.

Trump didn’t blame Bush for 9/11, only that its factually wrong to say he kept u safe when 9/11 happened during his watch
