Yes, because in a reasonable world, cops just let people beat the crap out of them without ever resorting to lethal force. You should adjust your expectations.

You may want to update your 1954 set of expectations. In 2015, it is fair to expect that your dog gets shot, your wife stripsearched and raped, your kid's arm dislocated, and you end up shot dead (7 times).
