The cop was wrong to allow the situation to get out of hand and even more wrong to kill that kid (like what happened to cops being able to use their fists instead of shooting people?).
But why are we getting dumbsh_t kids who mouth back cops and even worse, think they can fight them? I've seen lots of these louts out there and if they survive their 20s, it'd be a miracle. Where the heck are their parents?
This kid's parents are partially to blame!

If the cop had a baton he could have beat some sense into the kid. As it stands now it's tazers or bullets. When the first line doesn't work, the second line comes into play.
