It may come as a surprise to many that Donald J Trumps support from Blue Collar Americans (those involved in trades, manufacturing, industry, and labor) is the highest since any candidate since FDR in 1936 since Gallup began polling.
Trump has consistently shown his appeal to the blue collar sector of the economy, pulling ahead of even Clinton and Sanders in rust belt states like Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Pennslyvania.
These states have the highest share of Blue Collar voters in the nation, and many of them have not voted Republican in over 20 years.
Trumps appeal to blue collar workers is in the 60% range, higher than any candidate since Franklin Roosevelt won a massive landslide in 1936 on the support of the Blue Collar voter.

Well, as a diplomat for blue collar folks, I’d say that is only a part - a small part. Straight talk is even a greater appeal. That and being a candidate who looks to shake things up; the underdog-out-of-nowhere-that-wins-the-race sort of thing. Sure, illegals are a hot button, but even ditch diggers know the country is being pillaged and ruined by the political class. Declining wages and a decreasing job market for labor (aside from illegals doing lawn care for the rich) are percieved far more quickly by blue collar folks than number crunchers in the far off city on the hill.
While I like West, politically Carson is the only choice if he’s 2nd in the race. You need to unite Carson’s voters with Trump’s
My list is constantly changing based on feedback from freepers I respect, and analyzing comments Trump has made.
I’d feel more confident about this idea (and it sounds about right to me, btw) if I could find a link someplace to the poll the author cites.
Went over to the Gallup website, but I didn’t find anything.
Not surprising; not surprising at all.
The labor market is abysmal and getting worse. People may have been slow coming out of the gate, but they’ve figured out that state and Federal gov’t has been scrooing them for years, while the politicians themselves live mighty comfortably.
The deportation of illegals is one, but the prospect of bringing manufacturing and other business back here is critical. Trump is trusted to do just that.
And people are sick of the political correctness - sick to death.
Trump doesn't just represent or talk about all that, he is the unlimate American success story, and teaching younger US citizens about the way we used to be.
Trump has blue-collar support because these are the people that want to work.
They want to get up in the morning and go to work at a real job. If for no other reason than to get away from the old lady for 8-10 hours.
Never heard of the source. Might be true, might not.
He should be dropping out any moment...
“Trump talks like a man and not a neutered panty-waist...”
Refreshing, isn’t it?
You get enough black voters without Carson. It might be better energy to have a younger choice who could be good-to-go in four years (I'm not sure Trump considering his age would do eight) and is respectful and will learn how to get it done from Trump.
I'm wondering if it could be a surprise, who doesn't agree with him on all issues now, but has developed respect for Donald, and will come to realize that Trump's views are correct.
You made that list up ... didn’t you?
“Real people remember freedom of speech and despise political correctness. We want laws, regulation, and an economy that allows those who have the skills and desire to succeed to do so. US culture is a bit brash, unrestrained, and individualistic. It respects traditions and heritage, like the Confederate flag and indian names for sports teams.”
That is so well said and so right on it deserves to be repeated.
They used to be called “Reagan Democrats”.
Of course he’s got the blue collar workers. Hardly unexpected.
“I originally had Dr. Carson on my list as VP, until Ben’s statement about not shooting thug Brown.”
Also, about a month ago Carson said something to the effect that that Republicans have not been concerned with minorities (or blacks or similar). There was a thread here on FR. If he truly believes that, he’s not a Republican and doesn’t know history.
Yep—the privileged classes actually gain by illegal immigration in an immediate sense (though they too are losing their country longer term), by getting to hire household and yard help cheaper than they’d be able to otherwise.
The working classes are the ones getting their nests (neighborhoods) and jobs spoiled by the influx.
Let’s hope they stay the course and vote in change. (And Trump doesn’t let all the otherwise non-felonious back in legally).
“At that point I replaced Dr. Carson with Sen. Sessions.”
Me too.
The problem with this article is it doesn’t actually provide any poll that I could find.
