He obviously is carrying on the tradition started by his daddy. I read somewhere a few years ago that Pierre Trudeau pretty much destroyed Canada. It hasn’t been the same since.

In the 1960s, the Canadians abandoned their traditional Red Ensign, with the Union Jack on the upper left, and the unofficial national anthem, The Maple Leaf Forever, which honors England, Scotland, and Ireland, but not France or the Indian nations that preceded the European settlement, for a more politically correct official national anthem, O Canada, and the current Maple Leaf flag. This process was not started by Pierre Trudeau, but it was emblematic of Canada abandoning its traditional British and Christian heritage. The Britishness of Canada made their country clearly distinct from the United States. Without that element, English Canada is less distinguishable from their southern neighbor, arguably less distinct than the American South.
