Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday that a Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) would be better than the majority of possible GOP replacements for outgoing Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio.)
"Well he appears to me to be one of the people over there who would be reasonable," he told reporters Tuesday. "Look at some of the other people. I'm a Paul Ryan fan. I don't agree with him on much of what he does. ... But generally speaking, I think we've been able to work with him." Reid's comments come as Ryan is under pressure from both inside and outside of the Capitol to throw his hat into the ring to replace Boehner, after Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) withdrew his bid.
House Republicans are scheduled to huddle Tuesday evening after votes to discuss the fall agenda. Ryan remained tightlipped over his intentions while visiting his home state of Wisconsin during the past week's recess; he's expected to address his colleagues during the closed-door meeting.
Conservative Republicans have suggested that Ryan would have some convincing to do if he were to decide on a run to succeed Boehner. Asked if a Reid endorsement of Ryan would hurt his chances, Reid shrugged, adding "I speak the truth."
"If it helps him, fine; if it doesn't, too bad," he added.
I’m sure Reid knows his endorsement doesn’t help.

With everybody beating their chest and calling the Conservatives out numbered and meaningless, time for the C’s to take a stand and point out they know a GOPe Speaker will have them all on toilet duty, so we shall see if WE have enough swing to get a LIB elected as Speaker. If one could ‘trust’ the LIBs, a C backing a L for speaker may end up with a choice job....
Got to ‘play’ like the LIBs....because WE know that if the M D’s backed an R of any flavor the deal of chairmanships would already be deeply entrenched.
The C’s really have nothing to lose because you can figure they will be toast if a GOPe relieves boner.
Ryan is GOPe Heavy, right up there with Romney because he also folded along with Romney in the General Campaign.
