Brit Hume: Claim That Congress Gives Obama Everything He Wants Is "Utter Nonsense"
Real Clear Politics ^ | 10/20/15 | Unknown

A famous claim... is that the GOP Congress has "given Obama everything he wants."

It is utter nonsense. Here is a partial list of items Mr. Obama has requested from Congress since the GOP took the House back in 2010:

-- The American Jobs Act

-- The Paycheck Fairness Act

-- An increase in the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour

-- An array of gun control measures

-- Universal pre-kindergarten education

-- A week's paid sick leave for all

-- Higher tax rates on the rich

-- A new minimum tax on multinational companies

-- Overhaul and expansion of unemployment benefits

Only Trolls and those FReepers dumb enough to fall for their lies push the falsehood that gaining a GOP majority is worse or just as bad as having Democrat majorities.

At the least we need some perspective and to get our facts right. Some particularly foolish FReepers have argued that Illinois would be better off without a Mark Kirk. No Illinois Democrat is more conservative than Mark Kirk. I'd rather we had him and his exact twin, than Durbin.

Look what the Dems did back when they controlled all three. We need to keep the current coalition in place while supporting those conservative candidates who can win.

The fact that the most radical progressive ever to sit in the white house has only used his veto power a whopping 5 times says that the republican party has either been wildly successful or a spectacular failure.

Britt is spouting utter nonsense. Look at the debt ceiling on the day obama took office. Look at the debt ceiling now. If you can even find it published anymore.

Can’t agree more, but the argument that there’s no difference is absurd. What’s really happening is that the Government Party - mostly invisible, but mentioned by Ike in his Farewell Address - has totally taken over. They receive the dollars collected in taxes and borrowed in debt that government spends, all $4 trillion of it. That’s the enemy. I mean we cannot get rid of the sugar tariff, a law that benefits about two very rich families to the detriment of the entire nation.

I will say that I don’t blame the GOP as a whole. The blame lies with leadership and a lot of individuals.

The Dems are responsible for most of that. We’re actually lower due to the shut down, which I prefer to see repeated. The lie is that the GOP Congress is no different than Democrats.

Agree. Hume was once good, but is now a joke, and a bitter clinger to the sound of his own tired voice.

The debt ceiling is not lower

It is about 6 trillion higher than when obama took office
Yes trillion with a “t”
Please check it out

The last obama debt ceiling number posted was estimated $19.6 trillion

As far as I know only Ted Cruz has openly stated that he would ditch the tariff on imported sugar and the subsidies on domestic. Unfortunately supporters of "another candidate" want more tariffs on other products.

I know brother. It’s my policy to support the most viable conservative candidate and that’s Cruz.

It appears that the stick Brit keeps lodged up his butt needs some lubrication - he’s getting cranky.

The debt ceiling won’t ever be lower due to Democrat policies enacted 80 years ago and forward. Until you get real SS and Medicare reform, open market health care, and deregulation of nearly everything it’s going to be a mess. Ideally, we’d freeze it and grow our way out. There’s no reason we cannot grow 6%+ per annum and leave the mess to shrink of its own accord.

When Hume actually worked at Fox news, he occasionally was exposed to some conservative ideas. Now that he’s left the daily trek to work, his entire life is spent in the Beltway Bubble. He’s not even aware that there IS a Flyover America, much less what it thinks. His opinions are useless.

Yeah, we got Deaththcare by the kenyan anti-christ. Good point. Let’s all stop whining about what we haven’t achieved without a presidrnt, and let’s elect a real conservative along with a Republican Congress.

Cruz or lose!

For a time I wished he was still on Fox full time.

Now he sounds like the bunkmate of Mitch McConnell.
