Dr. Marc Siegel: Obamacare makes a mammogram mess
nydailynews.com ^ | october 26, 2015 | dr. marc siegel

That’s why women are so angry and frustrated by the new guidelines released by the American Cancer Society this week: no mammograms before the age of 45 in women at normal risk of breast cancer, and no breast exams whatsoever by either doctor or patient.

-snip

So why is the ACS, an esteemed organization that supports great research, making such a foolish decision here? The timing is certainly cruel, as we are right in the middle of breast cancer awareness month.

The answer is that it is succumbing to political pressure. Six years ago, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, fueled by Obamacare to cut costs, also relied on studies that looked at outdated technology, and also refused to put the blame for needless procedures where it belonged, on bad doctors. They released guidelines that discouraged routine mammography before the age of 50.

At that time, the ACS resisted moving the age to start screening upward from 40, but they have now given in to the one-size-fits-all pressure that is Obamacare’s trademark. It is disingenuous for the ACS to suggest that women now ask their doctors if they should be tested beginning at age 40, because with both organizations changing their guidelines, insurance companies are no longer likely to cover the test for those under 45.

Does anyone believe the daughters and wives of the EXEMPT
will have THEIR mammograms or other tests and treatments
withheld?

Like the enslaved peons who only live to serve the EXEMPT?

This is a heated issue ONLY because there is now the fixed assumption that someone else will pay for the procedure. It’s time for everyone involved to man up and tell the activists that they can get screened every other day if they want, as long as they pay the bill.

More hope and change. Sad though, we are moving from preventative care to let’s wait until you are very ill.

My best friend got breast cancer at 36. She was to have a baseline mammogram at 35 then routine starting at 40. She ignored the doc. Under these guidelines, there is a higher chance more women will succumb to the disease. Maybe that’s the end game. Just kill off the people

It seems like they’ve been back-pedaling on mammograms and testing for a few years now. At first, a study was released “suggesting” that early exams might not ben necessary; then, ACA supporters got behind this...it was in line with “avoiding un-needed medical tests,” and now it’s playing out in real life.

Reducing medical costs. A higher death rate from breast cancer is calculated to reduce those costs even more. The Death Panel will deny treatment to women when they finally do discover they do have cancer because it will be too far advanced.

No no no

First you get the abortion

Then you better hope you can get the mammograms because having an abortion raises your risk of breast cancer

Won’t be sending any more donations to ACS. If they don’t have the balls to stand up for what is right, they don’t deserve my money.

What did you expect when a bunch of political lawyers write a universal health insurance program, with the intent of killing off 30% of the population, with the death panels or financially ruining them so they loose thier homes and become dependent.
Why else would they require every insurance plan to cover everything. When you add maternity care to a policy it doubles in price, malpractice insurance for ob/gyn’s is the highest of all. Now I in my sixties and my husband have to pay for maternity care? How stupid is that? Not only that but also have to have drug rehab care, and mental care.
Why would a single man have to have maternity care coverage? womans rights? Is that the reason?

Once you reach Medicare age:
You guys can only have a PSA every 2 years.
Bone Density scans for Osteoporosis is every 2 years
Biopsy for Barrett's Esophagus caused by Nexium use every 2 years.

The last Mammo was so painful I don't want another one. And it cost over $3K as I do read my Statements from Medicare and Tricare Life.

If men had to go through one, this torture machine would be outlawed in 1 day. There are less painful ways to conduct one that cost about the same.

” either doctor or patient. “ Who is to stop a woman from doing self exams, most doctors will do one and not charge for it. Real IDIOTS are running the asylum.

You can add Nerve blocks to the list, 3 per year. While I find them useless, many find they work for months of spine pain.
